Probably because Arabic didn't have a separate word for smoke, so they
just used the word 'to drink'.

Muslims consider anything that passes your gullet during the fast to
be a violation of it. Some think it a violation of the fast to even
swallow your saliva.

There is no such thing as 'just an interpretation.' If that
interpretation comes from 'Abdu'l-Baha or Shoghi Effendi it is

Indeed. I bet the tobacco lobby has something to do with it. And the effect
such a ban would have on the economies of the states where tobacco is
