[BAROQUE-LUTE] Re: C'est l'amour qui nous menace
Gallot le jeune, or Gallot de Paris, was Pierre. Pierre Gallot was born by 1660. He was the son of Alexandre (vieux Gallot d'Angers), and therefore nephew of Jacques (Jacques Gallot, Jacques de Gallot, vieux Gallot or vieux Gallot de Paris) and grandson of Antoine. His filiation with Henry François de Gallot, Sieur de Franlieu (Gallot d'Irlande) is unknown. Gallot d'Angleterre is, perhaps, a son of Henry François, Gallot d'Irlande ? Jean-Daniel Le 23/08/11 23:07, wikla a écrit : Thanks Jean-Daniel! Who do you then think is G. le jeune of many European lute mss., Henry or Pierre? I guess Pierre. (My French is minimal. [BAROQUE-LUTE] Re: De Visée 1716 title: la Du haut Menil translation?
A mesnil was, in old french, a country domain. But, in this case, Du Haut Menil is an aristocratic surname. With la before, this appellation indicates a lady of the court. René Desmaires, Sieur du Hautmesnil, died by 1668, was a personality of Normandy. Jean-Daniel Forget Le 06/06/11 08:57, David van Ooijen a écrit : Saizenay has La Du Hautmenil Anyboday out there that can supply a good translation?
