I have to agree here, this was a *really* bad decision UI-wise.
Notification Center is IMO for a very different type of notification and it
annoys the hell out of me that I see notifications pop up after each Find
and Replace operation. I see i this thread that there's a expert-pref
setting for this, but I can't get that to work: still those annoying
Notification Center popups.

As the 10.5 release notes state:

When running on 10.8 and later, BBEdit now uses the system-provided
Notification Center for completion of certain operations, unless Growl is
installed and running, in which case it will use Growl as before.

I'm not sure when to expect Notification Center popups, even if the
expert-pref supress would work, and I really wonder if Notification Center
would be the right channel for those notifications.

But maybe it's just me having to accept the fact that more and more apps
start spitting out garbage through Notification Center.

Replying to myself: the Notification Center (system) preferences indeed
allow you to turn off these Notifications. Happy camper now. Thanks Rod for
mentioning these prefs.

Re: annoying pause with brackets

In BBedit 10.5 (3240) on Mac OS10.7.5 there's an annoying new feature
related to bracket [] and parenthesis () completion that's bugging me. Let
me say I've always appreciated the helpful feature that momentarily
highlights the initial ( or [ or { when you TYPE the closing one. But now I
see that when you're using right-arrow (only) to move across a line of code
with many [] and () pairs, the cursor will briefly pause upon crossing each
) and ] to highlight the opening bracket.

This seems wrong to me. I move quickly and so set my key-repeat speed to *
fast* so I can quickly move the cursor through long lines of text. You
get used to the speed so well that you learn precisely when to release your
finger from the arrow key to stop on the position you want. Now these
little unexpected hiccups--as the system momentarily flashes the initial
bracket--throw off my timing and slow me down.

I also saw this behavior and cringed. I don't want to disable the feature,
but would like to disable the pause. Is there an expert preference to leave
the balancing act and eliminate the pause?

Me being lazy: does that turn off all notifications, or can you still get the
alert within BBEdit? I use the search and replace as a 'get a count' sometimes.
