TextEdit acts like default text editor at times

2021-11-29 Thread Brian Gollands
rMBP 2012 / OS10.15 / BBEdit 14

Anybody else have a problem with TextEdit being invoked when
double-clicking on a .txt file that is set to be opened with BBEdit? This
has been an annoyance over several versions of the OS.

All .txt files are set to BB and their file icons reflect this. But
double-clicking them or choosing Open opens them in TextEdit. Choosing my
contextual command Open in BBEdit works OK. The latest straw was in using
Hook's command to Make a New Note in BBEdit. It, too, makes the file in
TextEdit.

Have tried making a zip of TE and deleting the original (so I didn't lose
it completely), but can't seem to do this even in Terminal due to some
magical protection conveyed by its living in /System/Applications/ I guess.

I have a lot of apps installed, but don't recall any other setting I've
changed that would cause this. Is there a default text editor config I'm
missing?

Thanks for any help,
Brian

Re: Can't assign certain key combinations to clippings

2017-10-25 Thread Brian Gollands
Thanks for testing that, Kendall. I guess that's the next step -- deleting
prefs and maybe temporarily uninstalling certain apps like KM and KC. The
problem isn't a showstopper, but there are only so many key combinations
that I can remember and those are nice simple ones!

Can't assign certain key combinations to clippings

2017-10-23 Thread Brian Gollands
Using latest BBEdit and X.12 and I have had a number of clippings that I
use for adding HTML to text. I had assigned shortcuts to a lot of these and
in the last year sometime, some of them stopped working and I can't reset
them. Only certain combinations won't allow me to set them in the Clippings
palette (i.e., there is no response when I try to edit shortcuts and type
something into the field). I am running Keyboard Maestro, but have turned
it off, as well as checked for conflicting shortcut assignments. I also
went into Sys Prefs and removed any conflicting shortcuts in Keyboards >
Shortcuts. And KeyCue doesn't show any being used by the system. I also
logged in as a new user to avoid any accumulated "baggage" -- no joy.

Some of the problem shortcuts are:
ctl-opt-cmd-p
ctl-opt-cmd-s
ctl-opt-cmd-t
ctl-opt-cmd-c

These don't seem to be used BBEdit. Can anyone think of any other place
these might be assigned? Maybe an installed app uses those, but registers
them system-wide, even though it's not open? Again, nothing shows in
KeyCue. Any suggestions are most welcome. Thanks!

a tootsie pop?

2014-04-02 Thread Brian Gollands
ok, i know i'm a little drugged from healing a broken elbow, but in doing a
multifile search, i just saw a message in the upper left of the pane in
place of the normal statement about the number of hits:
It takes 0 licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop

can't reproduce it and don't know if this is just testing code that got
left behind. if it's an easter egg, where's my tootsie pop? :-)
