BBEdit vs TextWrangler

2010-10-13 Thread Linda
I just downloaded the demo of BBEdit after using TextWrangler. When I
open the same exact document, at the bottom it says "UTF-8, With BOM"
in BBEdit and in TextWrangler it is UTF-8. Shouldn't it be the same no
matter what editor I open the document with? I had saved it in
TextWrangler with the UTF-8 chosen.

Thanks,
Linda

Text Factory

2010-10-14 Thread Linda
Again, I am using the demo version of BBEdit to see if it is what I
will need.

I have just discovered Text Factory but do not know how to use it
yet. I have a lot of HTML documents in one folder. They are all
UTF-8. Many of them have Windows (CRLF) and I want this changed to
Unix (LF). On these same documents, I want to tidy them and primarily
just reflow?? them to remove blank lines and have proper indentation.

These files have gone through a lot over the past 2 years. They
started out as Microsoft Word documents and were then saved to HTML
(or rather the Windows way as .htm). I have since cleaned up all of
the stuff that Word adds to them. They are now HTML5 with the
shortened DOCTYPE, html statement and charset. i.e.

In the process of doing all of this off and on over the past 2 years,
the indentation is horrible and there is are a lot of empty lines. I
think that I have removed all of the empty tags by now and so the
tidying won't have to do this.

So, my question is: Is Text Factory what I need to tidy the documents
to re-indent everything, to change from CRLF to LF and at the same
time to reflow (?) the documents?

Any help would be appreciated on how to set this up in Text Factory.
If this does what I need, then the minute that I am finished, I will
go straight to the web site and purchase BBEdit.

Thanks,
Linda

New HTML document

2010-10-14 Thread Linda
Are there plans for updating BBEdit to include HTML5 documents?

When I create a new HTML document, I have the option of inserting the
DOCTYPE. There is no choice (didn't expect it to yet ;-) for HTML5.

Something like this:

Re: BBEdit vs TextWrangler

2010-10-14 Thread Linda
As long as the documents are really the same then that is OK with me.
I am using the demo of BBEdit with the intent of purchasing. I will
not have a need for TextWrangler if I do decide to purchase. Thanks
for the hint though of how to correct the reporting in TextWrangler
and for the other answers as well.

Re: New HTML document

2010-10-14 Thread Linda
Sorry for the faux pas. I just downloaded BBEdit and joined this
group. I know that I should do a search first. I have no idea why I
didn't do that this time before asking.

Good to hear that there are plans for the change to include HTML5.

Save all

2010-10-16 Thread Linda
If I perform a search in all open files and then instead of doing a
replace in all files, I manually edit several of the "found" files, is
there a way to "Save All" rather than saving each file as it is
edited? The only time that I can see that this is available is when I
am closing BBEdit.

Thank you,
Linda

® vs ® and creating shortcuts to submenu

2010-11-07 Thread Linda
How can I prevent BBEdit from changing all of my ® to ® when I use
Tidy to "Reflow Document"?

Also, is there way to create a shortcut key to the "Reflow Document"
submenu in BBEdit?

vs and vs

2010-11-07 Thread Linda
How do I prevent Tidy in BBEdit when I reflow a document from changing
all of my tags to and all of my tags to ?

I know the debate about these tags. However, these pages will be
displayed within a native iPhone/iPad app in a UIWebView. I am in
control of the documents and they will not be displayed on the web or
be used with screen readers. My reason for using the old tags is to
save memory. These will be huge eBooks that occupy a lot of memory.
Anywhere that I can save a few tiny amounts of memory on each page
will be appreciated by my customers.

Thanks. That is what I am doing now. I was just trying to save 2
steps since there are hundreds of pages.

Re: ® vs ® and creating shortcuts to submenu

2010-11-07 Thread Linda
Sorry, that is what I thought that I said. I want to use ® and
not the "r" with a circle around it and not the other way around. It
is BBEdit that changes it to the "r" with a circle around it.

Re: vs and vs

2010-11-08 Thread Linda
I am not going to argue about it. It was just a question.

> Just how much HTML code are you writing?

Hopefully a whole library of books.

>It sounds like a Text Factory might be useful to you
Thanks. I am using the demo version of BBEdit right now. I think
that it is a lot more powerful than I realized. It really doesn't
"suck" does it? Looks like I will be a new customer very soon.

>If you just want to reformat your code for readability, the commands under

Thanks. I will look into that as well.

BBEdit looks like it is an amazing app.

Re: ® vs ® and creating shortcuts to submenu

2010-11-08 Thread Linda
For the question about shortcuts (sorry, I should have posted 2
separate questions) here is the answer.
BBEdit → Preferences → Menus → Menu key equivalents and item
visibility:
  → Markup → Tidy → Reflow Document… → Set Key…

>Does BBEdit still change the ® to ® if the encoding on the document is set
>to a character set that does not support ®?
I don't know but I will check.

Re: ® vs ® and creating shortcuts to submenu

To solve the substitution of ® for ® I will just wait until I have
finished editing all of the HTML files and then do a find/replace.

Thanks for the responses.

Removing all hyperlinks

2011-11-17 Thread Linda
I have a huge document (a book really) that was originally created in
Word (don't know the version). I saved it as an HTML and am trying to
clean it up before breaking it into hundreds of HTML documents. Word
put about 2000 hyperlinks into the document and I want to get rid of
all of them without doing it manually.

Is there a way for BBEdit's Find/Replace or a script that could remove
the tags?

Thanks,
Linda

P.S. While waiting on an answer, I will go back to manually deleting
them.

Re: Removing all hyperlinks

2011-11-19 Thread Linda
On further inspection, I was wrong about it being hyperlinks. It is
named anchors that I want to remove. I want to leave the hyperlinks
in the document.

Sorry about that.

Changing preferences

2011-12-22 Thread Linda
When I perform a search for text, the found result is highlighted in a
really pale blue color. Is there a setting in the preferences (that I
have not been able to find) to change the color so that I can spot the
found result more easily?

TIA,
