Leveled up in grep

2016-09-15 Thread Lorin Rivers
Howdy,

Needed to be able to append a zero to the result of a search but "\10" has
meaning in replacements. So I learned named references, which work like this:

(?P\.\d)(\s)
\P0\2

Means find a period followed by a digit (called "times") followed by a space
(could be a tab or a new line) and replace that with period-digit-zero-found
space.

Hope this helps someone!

Re: XML code folding

2012-04-30 Thread Lorin Rivers
BBedit is pretty picky about syntax errors and such in documents wrt to folding
in my experience.

Look below the section you think should be folding and see if there are closing
tags that don't have the tick for the closing fold next to them. Then look back
in the document and see if you can identify some code BBEdit doesn't think is
OK.

On Mar 2, 2012, at 6:08 AM, bbedit-issues wrote:

 XML format HTML hybrid.

 There is a script macro language called RXML, it combines HTML and XML
 to create a parser friendly layout.

 BBEdit happily folds html but not this RXML hybrid.

 When I look for Codeless Languge plugins, I can not seem to get very
 far.

 It would be nice to have a way to modify a default example and add in
 the XML tag list that BBEdit should apply folding to... any
 suggestions?

Controlling the CSS Format rules

2011-07-19 Thread Lorin Rivers
I seem to recall that in previous versions of Our Favorite Editor, one could
control how (for example) the formatting for a rule set with a single
declaration differs from one with multiple declarations.

I happen to prefer:

body { font-family: Comic Sans MS }

to

body {
  font-family: Comic Sans MS;
}

and then prefer this for multiple declarations

body {
  font-family: Comic Sans MS;
  font-weight: bold;
}

Is it hot or am I crazy?

In all my scripts that open files, I use this structure instead:

Which is what AppleScript emits if you record BBEdit opening a file.

Rick, actually, I think BBEdit is doing it right in this case, it looks like
your syntax is in error.

Try this:
div class=?php post_class(); ? id=post-?php the_ID(); ?

Pastebin also has trouble with the syntax as presented:
http://pastebin.com/t7V37aQJ

Cheers!

Also, Steve, thanks for AppleScripts.

 As an aside, I tried this same situation in several other editors and many

 got it correct. But BBEdit gets so many other things right.

 Thanks, Rick

Apparently so, that's how it gets loaded.

 What can I do to make BBEdit treat this as if it is javascript, or

 You can generate a tags file for Protovis symbols and put it in
 ~/Library/Application Support/BBEdit/Completion Data/JavaScript/ and the
 Protovis symbols will be recognized and eligible for coloring and completion.

OK, I got the tags bit working, but since BBEdit isn't recognizing the protovis
chunks as javascript, it's still not quite there.

Is there a way to convince BBEdit that it really IS javascript, even though
it's breaking some rules?

Re: Open Dialog won't open Project file

2010-04-28 Thread Lorin Rivers
**
Note to bug report/support pedants
**

If I had anything other than, “weird behavior sometimes” I would send a report.
I send this post in hopes of finding others who are also experiencing similar
issues and identifying a common thread.

*
Thank you

Prompted by Kendall's message…

Something quite odd is going on with BBEdit on my machine. Today I had a
similar experience where my Project files wouldn't open. In fact, BBEdit (which
will open soup cans) said it couldn't open Document files when I tried to open
my (properly updated) bbprojectd files.

Also, I was having trouble with Saving files. One case, the file started out as
untitled text n and I tried to save it as foo.html. Normally, the window's
title bar (and other places) will reflect the new name. This time, no. I
thought it had failed to save, but later discovered the foo.html file in its
proper place.

at the same time, it seemed my keyboard shortcuts had gone brain dead. cmd-w
did nothing, and so on.

Totally freaky. I quit and relaunched My Favorite Tool and all was well.

However, a similar thing had happened with a beta right before 9.5 came out and
I had chalked it up to corrupt preferences since I couldn't fix BBEdit by
quitting, logging out, restarting or shutting down and restarting. I ended up
moving my prefs and application support folders, which DID fix it.

This reappearance of a similar problem is making me wonder.

Anyway, BOLO and try and figure out what you did to cause it if it happens to
you.

 Before the update, I created a project with the .bbproject extension.

 Renaming the project to use the .bbprojectd filename extension will
 probably solve your problem.

 .bbproject was the extension for old-format projects, but a folder with
 that extension isn't recognized as a project, whereas .bbprojectd should be.

 Hope this helps,

BBEdit git/mercurial

2010-03-19 Thread Lorin Rivers
I searched the google group, did some googling, and basically came up empty.

I'm contemplating one of the DSVNs for a project and was wondering how people
who use those AND BBEdit handle their workflows.

These are some awesome, awesome tools!

This is the one I use, but I am going to dig into these others for nuggets:

tell application Safari to set s to source of document 1

tell application BBEdit
activate
make new text window with properties ¬
{contents:s, source language:HTML}
-- fix the \n that Safari sent over
replace \\n using \\r searching in text 1 of text window 1 ¬
options {search mode:grep, starting at top:true}
select insertion point before character 1 of text window 1
end tell

 One of the scripts I use is similar to Charlie's, but here are two more that
 you might find useful.

 If you don't use Keyboard Maestro, you can put these scripts into Services
 created with Automator. Mac OS X 10.6 allows you to assign keyboard shortcuts
 to Services via the System Preferences - Keyboard - Keyboard Shortcuts pref
 pane.

Re: How to Run a line of code in external program

2010-01-12 Thread Lorin Rivers
I use one (it's a template I made) in particular that's a big part of my
workflow.

It has the following in it:
# Leopard ps change update 2008.01.31
# Don't forget to unlock
apachectl configtest

# die, die, die
apachectl stop

# start
apachectl start

# let stuff finish, die, start
apachectl graceful

# is the right one running?
ps auxww | grep httpd

This is combined with AppleScripts that alter my Apache config file so
localhost serves the contents of my current project.
