Re: BBedit is taking up to 16 seconds to save all files

I imagine you are the only user on the computer. However, if you create a
new user and try the same thing while logged in as that user, the results can
help illuminate whether it is a global problem with BBEdit or the OS, or
perhaps an issue limited to your user account.

I apologize if I've given offense. BBedit 10.5.x, on my machine, does not
behave this way. Something is different between your machine and mine. I'm
just asking questions by way of trying to ascertain what the differences
 might be.

As I also said before -- this does not have anything to do with external

I'm the only user on this computer.

Nothing unique about what I'm doing. Been doing the same work, for 13 years,

This all started with the last BBedit upgrade.

I contacted bbedit support and they suggested I download and install a

If you start BBEdit, then do the following:

 1. command-N
 2. command-S
 3. Enter

Does your machine lock up for some period of time?

If not, at what point does the delay occur? If you type a bit of text,
then copy and paste over and over, does the delay begin at some point? Are
you saving to an external drive? Does saving to a different drive behave
differently? How about logging in as a different user? Is there possibly
something unique about the documents which are showing this problem? I
don't know what that might be, I'm just suggesting it as a possible
 starting point.

See my post above to Chris re rebooting, and resetting preferences.

It doesn't matter if I'm working with just one file or many. I've tried
using the save in menu with same result.

 Any other ideas?

 1) Are you saving locally to to an ftp server? It would seem that saving

 4) Instead of using a web browser (Safari, Firefox, iCab, Chrome, Opera,

My Previewing Pages information starts on page 229 of the manual. Using
that would at least cut down on the number of times you needed to save to
wherever allowing more time to tweak code.

Best wishes in solving your problem. It may be just local to your

 Robert,

Congratulations on the job. Condolences on it being a Windows shop.

Yes, back in the last century, I too had a job in a Windows shop. At the
time, I found a featuresome chunk of HTML creating software and was mostly
 pleased with using it.

I thought I might recommend it again as a possibility, but looking at their
pages with iCab--which has an immediate HTML/CSS checker--I found the pages
 riddled with errors.

Now really. How can anyone with a shred of self respect offer to sell a
program that makes broken pages? Sorry. I thought I had something to offer.
 Guess I don't.

open file by name kills

2012-02-13 Thread Robert Minor
when I hit control-d by accident it launches a window called open file by
name and from there bbedit goes into lockup. I can't do anything except force
quit.

I am working on projects on a mounted volume so I am not sure what bbedit is
doing at this point but this is murder. I look at activity viewer and it shows
bbedit using .3 of the processor and is not responding. Additionally I get
the beach ball and it flashes periodically.

Would be nice to have bbedit handle this more wisely, I imagine it is trying to
interact with the finder in some way and since it is a mounted volume over the
internet it is performing poorly. At the least I'd like to eliminate this
feature. Can I reasign cntrl-d. It sure would be nice to hit cntl . and have
it all end but allas my only resolution is to force quit and shift launch to
prevent relaunch of the Open by name window and a return to bbedit hell.
