Sorry for bumping. Nobody here using AsciiDoc?

I’m halfway finished with my own CLM for AsciiDoc, and for the moment it is
working sufficiently OK (getting headings, getting bracketed stuff etc.), but,
since I don’t have much experience with the AsciiDoc syntax any help or hints

Great update, Thanks! Especially the iCloud sync support is highly appreciated.

It would be nice if in the future we could group the iCloud-synced folders in a
“BBEdit” parent folder, for example like this:

~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/BBEdit/Application
Support/BBEdit/
~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/BBEdit/BBEdit Backups/

best wishes,

No, I don't think a file-based list would be a good idea. Of course, it depends
of your workflow, but I would prefer to see my recent replacements from another
file in the next file, too. Mostly. Furthermore, if you remember that you did a
similar search 2 hours ago, you’re going to look for it, and then "wth, which
document was it?".

And I don’t think a list of 30 or 50 entries is "really long". Admitted,
GUI-wise it’s a bit ugly to get such a long list, but it would be helpful, I
think.

Saving search patterns is one thing, and, of course, Text Filters are very
useful, too, and I use them extensively. But I also advocate an increased
number of remembered recent searches.

Sometimes it takes some time until you realize that you’ll need the pattern
again or regularly. But then most of the time it’s already vanished, with only
16. 16 is better than 10, but if you do lots of small searches in another
document in-between, the previous patterns for the previous document are gone
when you come back. Not really an issue, but would be handy improvement.

Rebuilding Launch Services didn’t change nothing, but the most simple thing,
deleting the Preview Helpers in BBEdit’s prefs and repopulating the list, did

Yep, syncing is the whole point of all these notes apps, and the main a
advantage over a Finder/folder-based notes system. (You can also sync Finder
folders with the help of iOS apps like Documents (Readdle) or GoodReader, but
this is not maintenance-free.)

> Right now I'm trying out Simplenote for iPhone and iPad.

Be careful, this thing has (or at least: had) sync problems from time to time.
I also used it for quite some years: It was fine most of the time, but every
now and then notes didn’t sync or reverted back to older versions. The problem
is you won’t notice that until you search for something or want to access an
older note. Finally I gave up because I’ve lost confidence.

Currently, for the bulk of my miscellaneous notes, I’m back to Apple’s
Notes.app ;-)

It syncs reliably in my experience, basically the notes are emails on the imap
server (plus some new iCloud/Drive mechanics recently…). It accepts also
attachments (images or whatever) and since iOS 8 (or 7?) these also get synced
to iDevices. So, you can for example, attach an iThoughts document and access
it with iThoughts on the iPad via the Notes.app.

Of, course, Notes.app is not plaintext nor MD-aware.

If I had *only* text/MD files I’d store them in a DropBox folder and access
them on iOS with Nebulous or any other of the plethora of iOS text/MD apps. On
OSX Spotlight does a very good job for retrieving MD/text snippets systemwide,
so I don’t see any major need for a dedicated text notes management system on
the OSX side.

Task or project related small plaintext stuff I’m syncing also via my task
manager (currently 2do.app).

As a side note:

You already have a Markdown importer. Since Markdown is plaintext it is
sufficient to add the Markdown UTI to the system’s text mdimporter, which is
`/System/Library/Spotlight/RichText.mdimporter`.

Open the bundle and add the Markdown UTI string to the `LSItemContentTypes`
array in info.plist. (On my system it is `net.daringfireball.markdown`, but
this may vary; you can get the actual UTI by running `mdls` on a .md, .mmd or
.markdown file, or whatever extension you use.)

Reimport afterwards with `mdimport -r
/System/Library/Spotlight/RichText.mdimporter`.

I’m not sure if this is an improvement.

For example I get these “combining characters” when I paste text
from a PDF into my (utf8) TeX file. In previous versions I could
immediately see that the text contained one or more of these chars (they
have been rendered as “?” in BBEdit) and could correct them
accordingly.

With the new versions it is no longer possible to spot these chars
visually and it happened several times that I only saw the wrong chars
in the outuput PDF after typesetting the TeX file. (e.g. “u” instead
of “ü”).
