Good idea, I wish I'd had this my first few times as well. You should email

I am still wiping my eyes from the tears of laughter. I did not
realize how much need I had for comical relief about the stored stress
from the embarrassingly large amount of time I also spent, I think
twice, in the past on that same thing.

Thanks so much Lu! :-)

'Selection only' in Find dialog.

2011-09-01 Thread LuKreme
Recently I spent quite a lot of time (an embarrassing amount of time, to be
honest) trying to figure out why I could not do any searches in BBE 10. No
matter what I entered in the find and replace fields, the ‘next’ button was
disabled and the ‘replace all’ button did nothing but beep at me.

Then I noticed that “selection only” was checked in the find dialog. Many
minutes later.

It seems to me that this should be handled differently by the app.
possibilities:

1) clicking ‘find all’ brings up a “Hey dumbass, you can’t search an empty
selection” error (or words to that effect)

2) the Selection only option is not active unless there actually is a
selection. So if I don’t have a selection, that toggle is just ignored, but as
soon as I do select something, it becomes live.

3) the Selection only option is cleared if there is no selection when the find
dialog is created (this is the least desirable option, I think).

I like #2, but #1 is probably the easiest?

Of course, it won’t matter to me, I learned my lesson.
