Did you remember to turn off soft wrap?

Make sure soft wrap is disabled (off) when trying to make the selection...
common issue...

Column Select

2011-10-01 Thread AlexBalakersky
Am I missing something or this option has been changed?
I am trying to do a column select in 10.0.1 and it is not working.
Hold Option key and drag the mouse, right? That's what the manual
says. But I am not getting any difference in selection behavior
whether I hold Option, Command, Shift, Ctrl, or any combination of
these keys.
Is there something wrong with my config or did I find a problem?

Thanks,

Holy crow; I had no idea!!

And now I see that it is indeed mentioned in the manual, in BOTH the
"rectangular selection" and "soft wrap" sections - although NOT in the
section that describes working with columns.

So maybe this thread will help the next person Googling to prevent
further hair loss. :)

Thanks!

Did you check to make sure that "Soft Wrap Text" is turned off? Column
selection only works when Soft Wrap Text is disabled.

"column select" sometimes unavailable?

2010-07-20 Thread Marc
Folks -

For the life of me, I can't figure this one out and I see no
discussion of it anywhere:

Now and then, I'm unable to use "column select"; I press the Option
key and not only does the cursor not change to the crosshairs, a
vertical drag selects by line rather than column.

Interestingly, this seems to affect TextMate as well as BBEdit.

The Option keys (I've tried both) do work; ex: I can type a bullet via
Option-8.

Rebooting fixes it. Using "Fast User Switching" fixes it sometimes (I
think I saw that once anyway).

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Marc
