Re: Does anybody what happened to the unsaved dot from 10.5 BBEdit?
Do we all really need to wax poetic about the little black dot? I mean, it's to the point where no one wants to RTFM anymore. When a change is made, 1/3 of you complain, 1/3 of you whole-heartedly embrace it, and 1/3 of you delve into the metaphysical ramifications of the change and how it'll devastate your workflow. Really!! RTFM. Upgrade (or don't). If you did and you don't like it, downgrade (or don't). Enough already. My undying thanks to the Barebones team who somehow are able to create software that doesn't suck while pragmatically dealing with all of the complainers. BBEdit -- in all its forms -- makes my job easier. Period. -- Brian Frick brianfr...@gmail.com On Dec 14, 2012, at 2:51 AM, Mike Conley mtconle...@gmail.com wrote: On Thursday, December 13, 2012 7:49:09 PM UTC, eremita wrote: I say, to the devil with Apple’s innovations. (We made this change as part of the process of adding Retina support, and it also follows current Mac UI convention.) If you were to darken the icon in the title bar it might be ever so slightly noticeable. The more I see of “current Mac UI conventions” the more I am tempted to break a habit of 38 years and switch to Linux. Microsoft seems to be the only developer that pays any heed to the time-honoured Apple HIG in certain respects. In many apps you can’t even do ⌘S for save or ⌘D for don’t save, let alone ⌘C for cancel. Instead, after typing ⌘W, rather than move one finger one or two places, you need to reach for the esc key or the return key. If that’s what the junior wizards at Apple consider ergonomic they deserve to work for London Transport. As for the new-fangled “sheets” that ask you to save something that you can’t even see for the damn sheet in the way, what genius thought up that great idea?! And what about scriptable apps? In TextEdit you can’t even get the selection using Apple Events or in Mail the properties of the message in the front window. In Preview you can’t to anything at all. I could give you a list as long as my arm. I say, to the devil with Apple’s innovations. I stick with BBEdit because it is grounded in a tradition that predates all this nonsense, not because I am dying for it to jump on the “really really great” self-congratulatory band-wagon. Re: Does anybody what happened to the unsaved dot from 10.5 BBEdit?
I heartily agree that the previous bullet method made better visual sense. I really missed it right away and still do. Bring 'er back or make it an option (there are only a half million options in BBEdit so a half million and one couldn't be that much more difficult, could it?). Re: Does anybody what happened to the unsaved dot from 10.5 BBEdit?
I have found myself needing to retarget my eyes when looking for the save state indicator. It is just slightly lower, but actually bigger and more logical than it was before. After coding for 17 hours in the last two days, I can say I have about reprogrammed myself. ;-) Is change always bad? Or does it depend on the amount of time entrenched in the previous paradigm...? -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the BBEdit Talk discussion group on Google Groups.
