[beagleboard] 4 GByte RAM?

2018-05-16 Thread mike . maikaefer
Hi,

according to the schematics there is a RAM-module with 4 GByte available on
the BBB (and also on the BBG). Why are there only 512 MBytes available for
the CPU - aren't enough address lines used? Or what else is the reason?

Kind regards

Mike

[beagleboard] Cannot SSH to BBB anymore

2018-05-16 Thread yassyass
Hi guys,

Not sure what's happened and not sure where to start troubleshooting.

My BBB won't respond to SSH requests from Terminal on my mac, this was
working perfectly fine just days ago and I am trying to go back and
understand what changed.

I worked mostly using Cloud9 and running scripts with Python and JS so I
have quite a bit saved on it that I would like to recover if possible
before resorting to re-imaging.

The board seems to turn on fine with all the LEDs turn on sequentially and
then they start pulsing as they would when the OS is running.

The board is both connected directly to my Mac and to a LAN via ethernet.

Re: [beagleboard] BBB: Using DMA with SPI

2018-05-16 Thread Jeff Andich
I ran into a similar issue when I upgraded my kernel on an existing BB-X15
image and then attempted to run the flasher script from the SD card on a
BB-X15:

http://beagleboard.org/discuss?place=msg%2Fbeagleboard%2Fx1mxG7c-ilg%2F2Q8OROMCAwAJ

Where Robert indicated to do:

(1) depmod -a

(2) sudo update-initramfs -ck `uname -r` (or update-initramfs -uk 'uname
-r')

Not sure if updating the module dependency db is needed, but something to
consider..

before you run that script, just make sure you run:

sudo update-initramfs -ck `uname -r`

Re: [beagleboard] BBB: Using DMA with SPI

2018-05-16 Thread John B
I found that the eMMC flasher (
/opt/scripts/tools/eMMC/init-eMMC-flasher-v3.sh) no longer appears to work
after I upgraded to Kernel 4.14.x. I traced this to
/opt/scripts/tools/eMMC/functions.sh in *prepare_environment()*.  It seems
that /proc and /sys are not mounted when the flasher script is executed
from *init*. Needless to say, this caused agita for the rest of the
script. I'm not sure if this has been addressed someplace else (maybe it
has to do with the fact I am using initrd.img-4.9.82-ti-r102? I doubt it
though.)

In any event, in case someone is running into the same issue, I have
attached my updated functions.sh which addresses the issue by mounting
/proc and /sys just after the script does /tmp.  This seems to work fine;
it should even work on a system where /proc and /sys are already mounted.

Re: [beagleboard] BBB: Using DMA with SPI

2018-05-16 Thread John B
Robert,
Yes. It seems that 4.14.x works fine. Using a logic analyzer with 4.9.99,
it seems that, while it was doing DMA, it was ALWAYS using a word size of 8
bits. So you 'd see 8 clocks, a substantial gap, 8 clocks, gap, 8 clocks,
etc. Using the same driver module code we used for 4.9.99 (albeit, built
with the 4.14.40 kernel includes/Makefiles), we ran it with the 4.14.40
kernel. We now see the correct 32 bit transfers: 32 clocks, gap, 32
clocks, gap. The gap is now about 1/5th of the total time as opposed to
half of it.

Something must have been fixed/changed between 4.9.99 and 4.14.40 in the
SPI driver. I'll 'diff' them out and see if I spot anything.

Thanks for the suggestion on using 4.14.x.

John

any changes or not.

The BOM on the WIKI for the BBB is a .csv file, I never used .csv files so I
have no idea where that came from and it has not been changed from the original
design from a part number standpoint on that connector.

Re: [beagleboard] Re: Disabling/enabling the USB slave interface dynamically

2018-05-16 Thread Mala Dies
Hello,

I was incorrect on what you were attempting to do w/ your idea and set up.
Maybe setting a reset pin would help. For instance, I use a Cape called the
Motor Bridge Cape. Primarily, I use this Cape for testing and fun. I have
created a mower that runs in angles until it is done but on this
MotorBridge.py library, the idea is that it resets a pin.

I thought using a reset pin may work. Do you think there is a way to use
the USB as a reset pin?

Just for kicks, I am replying, e.g. as your method of using the BBB is out
of my scope. I am sorry.

Seth

P.S. If you get bored and you think I am on to something, do not hesitate
to reply. If not, I understand.

Just out of curiosity -- have you tried a Refresh
 in the
Windows FileExplorer that is opened on the "USB mass storage".

Re: [beagleboard] Re: Disabling/enabling the USB slave interface dynamically

2018-05-16 Thread Jon Lundstrom

I'm using my c-program that creates files. It uses the the USB-mass storage
device that comes with the BBB which is created by
/opt/scripts/boot/am335x_evm.sh (so, in that sense, you could say I use a
script).
I've mounted the disc-image-file it uses, so my application simply writes
its files to that device, for the host PC to copy.

The BBB with my application is a measuring device which produces result
files (in the same way as a digital camera).
It would nice to be able to upload these files to a PC via USB.

Scp could be a solution but I don't have control over the host PC, in the
sence that I don't want to install programs on it. The PC usually belongs
to somebody else. Simply put, I want to the ability to connect to any PC,
have my application to create files on the BBB and then letting the owner
of the PC to upload them to his domain.

Another solution is to unplug-reinsert the cable after every measurement.
That's where I stand today ...but it's not pretty.
I feel I'm so close: I only need my application to toggle the USB device
off/on, so the host will behave as if it was unplugged/reinserted, and
update its file info.

But I don't know how. I have difficulties understanding the
am335x_evm-script and it seems to be run once, at startup. Isn't there an
easy way of turning the USB-mass- storage-device on and off from an
application?

Yes, I have been thinking of buying a mechanical relay, controlled by a
gpio, to unplug the cable from my application. That would probably do the
job, but it feels awkward.
