Re: [beagleboard] BBB not Flashing the eMMC
I just went through this same thing a couple days ago. From what I can tell (and others, please correct me if I'm wrong), there are two different types of images. One just runs off the SD card (which I am guessing is what you are using); the other is configured to actually flash the image onto the eMMC. I'd been trying the non-flasher image, and was seeing the same thing you are. What I did was to go to http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack_Debian and about 2/3 of the way down the page is a Debian flasher image under the title of BBB Rev C (4GB eMMC) 4GB eMMC Flasher with an acual file name of: BBB-eMMC-flasher-debian-7.8-lxde-4gb-armhf-2015-03-01-4gb.img.xz Once I downloaded that image, unzipped it, and installed it on my SD card, the flash instructions worked marvelously to flash the image onto the eMMC of my BBB rev C. Hope this helps! Scott On Sun, Jun 7, 2015 at 10:03 AM, clickco...@gmail.com wrote: New to the world of BBB and bought one and am stuck at flashing the eMMC on the BBB. I followed the instructions on the BBB website, but the thing just won't flash - I'm sure it's something I'm not doing right, but it seems dozens/hundreds/thousands of similar folks have the same exact problem. Here is what I did as per the manufacturer's instructions: ( http://beagleboard.org/getting-started) 1) Connected the BBB to PC running Windows 8.1 with mini-USB cable 2) Installed 64-bit Windows drivers - restarted Windows and resumed this process 3) Used Windows Chrome to browse to BBB at http://192.168.7.2 - everything looked fine 4) Updated BBB to latest software: a) downloaded latest BBB image at: http://beagleboard.org/latest-images b) downloaded and installed 7Zip and unzipped the .img.xz file to just a .img file c) downloaded and installed the Image Writer for Windows and it built the 16 GB SD micro flash - I looked at the directory and it seems just fine with all the files having today's date d) unplugged BBB and inserted the SD e) Pressed and held the Reset button on the BBB while inserting the 5V 2A power cord - held button down 5 seconds and all 4 LEDs lit up f) LEDs flashing for about 1 minute then just LED 0 flashing the heartbeat for the next 5 hours - no 4 lit LEDs as the instructions promise. If I connect the Mini USB I can see the SD card directory, with all files having today's date, which means BBB booted from the card but when I remove the SD card and reset BBB I see the original 2013 files that were never flashed on the eMMC I'm missing the step where the booted SD flashes it's image to the eMMC and I can't find documentation that helps. I guess I could delete the eMMC and copy over an image of the SD but I doubt that would work. So what the heck am I doing wrong? [beagleboard] Reflash only option?
Hello! I have BBB that I've somehow hosed the permissions on my home directory, so I can no longer log into it - when trying to ssh I'm getting a permission denied. This is an element14 unit with whatever Debian version that came with it installed. I (unwisely) never created another user account on the box. Is my only recourse at this point reflashing my BBB to a new image, or is there a back door of some sort that I can use to SSH into it, or at least mount the eMMC to see what's there and try and fix without needing to reflash? [beagleboard] eth0 not automatically coming up after reboot?
I have a recent BBB (rev C) that's running the standard Debian (3.8.13-bone47) os. I've noticed that when firing it up (or after reboot) that the eth0 network interface isn't functional. I can easily bring it up manually with a sudo ifup eth0 command, but is there something I'm missing in regards to why it's not coming up automatically if the interface is set to static configuration: in my /etc/network/interfaces, the relevant part is set to: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.13 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.250 The only way I can initially get into it after reboot is to use the usb0 interface from my PC, which works fine. It does not matter if the live ethernet cable is plugged into the BBB before starting up or not. I hoping to be able to make this a stand-alone web server, but if it doesn't bring up eth0 automatically upon reboot, I'm not sure how useful it would be for this use. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! Re: [beagleboard] need Database Architect at San Jose, CA.
But maybe he was looking for someone to do DB architect work for databases that would be running on BBB installations? I have a BBB running LAMP and it handles the mysql it just fine, so it's not *completely* out of the realm of possibility that the post was at least not completely off-topic (except for the commercial nature of the solicitation)... :-) Scott On Thu, May 7, 2015 at 2:30 PM, evilwulfie evilwul...@gmail.com wrote: We should all send him a flood of fake resumes to clog his inbox -- For more options, visit http://beagleboard.org/discuss --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups BeagleBoard group. Re: [beagleboard] can you help me? (apt-get update prlblem)
Looks like a network connectivity issue. From your BBB can you ping ports.ubuntu.com? It looks like you're using the static IP address that comes pre-canned with BBB and so you'll probably need to set up some sort of routing gateway that makes sense for your network setup.
