It's possible, but overclocking the cpu and installing a fan on your case
would definitely help.

Any update on this? I am just looking into doing it now and was wondering
how it works and how easy it is to set up

I recently received my BBB and successfully installed Ubuntu, Oracle jre 7
and bukkit as the minecraft server. (currently without plugins)

From a single client, performance seems very playable and i think it could
handle 2-3 more users easily. As noted on many other forums, world
generation is a resource hog (lag) and in general runs at about 95% cpu.

I'll be testing this more at home with 3-4 people actively playing.
