Stupid newbie question.

Can some one please explain $i to me? It is my
understanding that this is one of those special little
variables. Sorry, and thanks.

Who wants to help a newbie?

2002-08-27 Thread coe smythe

I'm trying to work up a little script using the
Net::AIM module. However, I don't have a whole lot of
perl knowledge, and have even less knowledge as to how
the module interacts with AIM.

I'm pretty much just snooping around for some one
willing to give me a hand who knows something about
Net::AIM.  Help is much appreciated.

Net::AIM

2002-08-26 Thread coe smythe

I relatively recently stumbled upon perl bots for aim,
and figured i might as well try to write my own.
However, my knowledge of perl is minimal, and I was
looking for anyone with some familiarity to the
module.

In specific, right now I'm trying to get my bot to
look at an incoming message, see who the sender is,
and base a reply based on the senders SN.

Help is, as always, much appreciated.

RE: Best perl on windows?

And one more question. I know that this is a little off topic for this
list, but figure there are enough guru's running around here for at least a
little help. I was considering setting up a dual boot and throwing linux on
the same machine as i have win2k. I was wondering how difficult it would
be, and whether or not anyone advises strictly against it. Thanks.

I use ActiveState and have for about 4 to 5 years. It seems work well. I
have another machine which I do Perl on, but will do it first on the pc and
then tweak with changes for my other machine. Except for how a directory
or file is named, they work the same. I used MKS ToolKit at one
point and it is setup with a shell and has a many of the unix commands
which you would be familiar with. My company had no real need after we
switched one of the applications, so still use the shell, but have it tied
to AS.

Wags ;)

i recently moved and have not gotten my linux box back up yet, as before i
do i plan to make some hardware changes and what not, but that's beside the
point. i do have a couple windows machines up, and was wondering what
windows adaptation to perl works best, and what, if any, the major
differences are between running perl on windows and running perl on linux.
any help is appreciated. thanks.
