I do have to brag now and I hope nobody will hold it against me.

EUR-AM'S Czarewich and EUR-AM'S Lopen thru the Tulips won at the Blackfoot
show Best in Show Brace against 5 other braces. The two boys were impressive
how
they moved together.( comments of the judge).

They repeated the win the next day.

So two Best in Show was not bad when you have some competition.
I was extremely proud of them.

Puppies in NJ pet stores

2003-06-27 Thread Teri
Just FYI, this past week, 2 pet stores in Central NJ have Berner puppies for sale
$1500. - the pet store at the Phillipsburg mall had a sign up - not to purchase
puppies from puppy miller. It said that all of their puppies are from local breeders
and they do not support puppy mills. Can't imagine any breeder selling their dogs
through a pet shop. It's so sad that now our berners in the the pet store cages.

Worth Repeating

2003-06-27 Thread Mary-Ann Bowman
What Is An Obedience Title Really?

Not just a brag, not just a stepping stone to a higher title, not
just an
adjunct to competitive scores; a title is a tribute to the dog that
bears
it, a way to honor the dog, an ultimate memorial.

It will remain in the record and in the memory, for about as long as
anything in this world can remain.

And though the dog himself doesn't know or care that his
achievements have
been noted, a title says many things in the world of humans, where
such
things count.

A title says your dog was intelligent, adaptable, and good natured.

It says that your dog loved you enough to do the things that please
you,
however crazy they may have sometimes seemed.

In addition, a title says that you love your dog. That you loved to
spend
time with him because he was a good dog and that you believed in him
enough
to give him yet another chance when he failed and in the end your
faith was
justified.

A title proves that your dog inspired you to that special
relationship
enjoyed by so few; that in a world of disposable creatures, this dog
with a
title was greatly loved, and loved greatly in return.

And when that dear short life is over, the title remains as a
memorial of
the finest kind, the best you can give to a deserving friend.
Volumes of
praise in one small set of initials after the name.

An obedience title is nothing less than the true love and
respect, given and received and recorded permanently.

drugged BMDs on the 4th of July

2003-06-27 Thread Freya Steinmeyer
Any advice on BMDs who don't like 4th of July? I don't know what to do with
my Bennington. Tranquilizers have come to mind; however, it seems so mean.
Unfortunately, our house is very close to a fireworks show (extreme sound
and sight). I have a feeling Bennington will be uncomfortable no matter how
closed up and locked up the house is. He had a bad experience last year...
too close for comfort. Any alternatives other than drugging Bennington?

Hi Pippa,
The source of meat meal may well be the same for natural foods. In order
to be truly safe in what one feeds the dog the food would have to certified
organic and slaughtered for human consumption. Even organic livestock are
euthanised on the farm if they are not fit enough for transportation. Even
if one chooses to feed raw natural (BARF) there are likely to be residues
of antibiotics and hormone growth drugs in the meat and bones and then
there is the pesticide and genetic modified effects on the fruit and
veggies. Certified organic is the way to go but it is very expensive.

Hi Jayne,
I have twelve dogs (ten bitches) who are watering my lawn and yes it does
get brown in places but the heavy rains this spring have revitalised our
grass and all is green again for a while (middle of hot spell) We do not
treat our grass with anything, no fertiliser nothing. Its only grass and my
dogs health comes first:-)
If your lawn area is small and you have nice shrubs (probably won't have
those

Fw: Help needed for fellow dog lover.

2003-06-27 Thread Fiona Gordon/Glen Thomason
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all the many, many people that
have offered to help this lady in San Diego. I am sorry I cannot reply to
you all personally, I am totally overwhelmed by the response to this, you
guys have certainly restored a lot of faith in humanity. Amazing!

Her mother here, was in tears at the offers of support for her daughter.
She was extremely distraught to hear yesterday that her daughter has decided
to stay with her boyfriend. I cannot begin to understand what this poor
girl has just been through and definitely would not want to judge her
decision. It must be so overwhelming and frightening, for her to be in this
situation so far from home.

However, we are making her up a support package with all of the information
that everybody has so kindly sent me, in the hope that this will give her
strength and the knowledge that so many beautiful people are there to help
her.

Please, with your blessings I would like to ask if you could hold your
offers of support and allow me to include them in this package.

For those that enquired the dog is a male, desexed Bearded Collie X, he is
beautifully mannered, has always lived in the house and gets on well with
other dogs. He is her heart and she definitely wants to keep him, not
rehome. She has been advised that he has to remain in the States for 6mths
before he can return to Australian quarantine. We are guessing that this is
due to rabies, he would never have had a vaccination for this before? We
are checking this out further using the contacts we have been sent from this
email, thankyou.

Again, thankyou for allowing me to post off topic and for your unbelievable
support. I knew that there would be a person that could offer some
information but never dreamed that the support would be so far and wide.

Warm regards,

Fiona Gordon

Leather Decorative Collars

2003-06-27 Thread chellotchr
Hello List!

A friend with Leonbergers forwarded me this website for a decorative
leather, hand-crafted collar with the Bern crest on it. If you view the web
site, click on the Leonberger breed for a picture of the actual collar (of
course it would have the Bern crest instead). Just thought I would throw
this out for those of you that are looking for unique items for your Berner
buddies.

Hampton, VA

PS: I have no affiliation with this man or his company. Just thought I
would pass it along to the List as it seems that there are lots of people
looking for all things Berner!
