Thanks for the help

2003-05-31 Thread Julie E. Johnson
I appreciate all the input you all gave me on drooling and insecurities
and behavior of both the BMD and the GP yesterday. I am unsubscribing
to the list as the *&@%! breeder decided to sell the pup she was holding
for me last night. (I was supposed to go pick him up today.) I frankly
can't afford a purebred and was excited about finding the mix. So, I
guess I'll go back to my beloved Golden Retrievers and hope that in the
future I'll afford a BMD or maybe I'll come across another mix someday.
Thank you all again. You're a great group, but my inbox can't handle
the e-mail and the saddened heart of the breed I won't be buying right
now. I'll look you all up in the future if I ever run across one again
and become a BMD mommy.

Drooling Thanks, another ?

2003-05-30 Thread Julie E. Johnson
WOW! Thanks for the awesome responses already on my drooling
questions! Just what I needed to hear. A second thing I've heard that
I wonder about is that my friend described the Berner as pretty
insecure. She said her neighbor that has one can not ever leave the dog
outside. When the owners were out of town the care taker had trouble,
the dogs (BMD and Great Pyr) pooped all over the house and the Great Pyr
ran away. .

We have as I mentioned before a big (98lbs.) male Golden Ret. for whom
we are buying a buddy ( We just lost my female Golden to cancer two
weeks ago. ) He really misses his buddy. We have a nice
size yard in the mountains. (8,600 ft.) My hubby and I both work and
are counting on leaving them both outside as we always have with dogs
while at work. They are inside most of the time that we are home as
they are a part of our family. Do you all know of a tendency for the
Berner to be a bit insecure like what my friend described? I just need
to know what I am getting myself into here, you know! :-) Your input
is very much appreciated! By the way, the dog I am looking into in a
cross the bitch is a Great Pyrenees. (just a coincidence with my
friend's neighbor-they're not the parents)

Thanks Again,
Julie

what age do puppies start drooling?

2003-05-30 Thread Julie E. Johnson
Hi,
I'm new to the list. I am considering whether the berner is the right
breed for our family. I have researched the dogs and have learned that
SOME drool. If a dog is going to be a drooler, at what age does this
typically start? Can this trait be seen in the pups? For the dogs that
are droolers, how bad is it? I hear it is not as heavy as St. Bernards,
but I am imagining more than our golden retriever who shares his latest
drink with us?

I apologize if this topic has been addressed before. I was unable to
access the archive site.
Feel free to respond if person if this is not appropriate to the list.
Thanks,
Julie
