help requested- sudden persistant conjunctivitis
Hi, I'm hoping for some help here My berner Donner is 7.5 years old and is generally very healthy. Last Tuesday night for the first time I noticed what I believe to be a conjunctivitis of his right eye. The lower lid sags down and toward the back, revealing a lot of red (swollen?) inside the lower lid. On Wednesday it seemed to look somewhat worse. I took him to the vet on Thursday and he was prescribed an ointment that we put in 4X/per day: Neo-Poly-Bac, an antibiotic with hydrocortisone. Well, now it is Saturday night and it doesn't look better, and he also has been making some strange sniffling noises (through his nose, I think) occasionally over the past few days. Also today my dog sitter, who is here when I'm at work, said she could tell his nose was bothering him. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms together? We live in California, so during this season I always consider the possibility of a foxtail playing a role here so I called the vet to ask about that possibility, but Donner is not doing any sneezingone of the classic symptoms of 'foxtail up the nose', I understand. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced conjunctivitis in their Berner. (Fortunately, his left eye is still normal.) cat urine crisis...
...OK, this isn't exactly berner related, except that the culprit cat is a sibling in our family to our berner, and he is currently looking sympathetically through the sliding glass door at that very cat who isn't allowed inside. And he's not understanding why she's been banished or why mother is mad tonight. Bottom line: Does anyone know how to get cat urine out of shoes without wrecking them in the process? They're nubuck Mephisto sandals with cork footbed -totally saturated for 18 hrs before discovery. (This is the 3rd pair of family's shoes to be targeted in exactly this way since January.) My apologies to the list for this, but I figured that cleanup issues that pertain to dogs might similarly work for cats.) Suggestions will be gratefully received privately at my email address, so as not to corrupt the list with off-topic posts! What's the best crate material?
Hi, I've been looking at double-door folding crates for use in my mini-van. I see there is a choice of materials from different manufacturers: black or white epoxy, bright zinc plating, gold zinc, black electro coat. What is the best to get as far as: 1)comfort/safety for the dog, 2)keeping it clean, 3)How well it holds up. I'd appreciate hearing any recommendations (and the reasons why you recommend what you do!) Tribute to Ranger and to Jim
Dear Jim, Words cannot express how sad I feel upon hearing of your loss of Ranger last week. Ranger was the first Berner to whom I was officially introduced and invited to touch! I will never forget meeting him at the 1996 National Specialty in San Mateo. I was captivated by his gentle nature, his keen intelligence, his enthusiasm to perform for you(& us), his incredibly soft coat, and his obvious happiness! Hearing this news, I feel like it's the end of an era. I'll never forget how indebted our family is to you for really introducing us to this Berner world, opening the doors for us to actually bring our very own Berner into our household and lives. We will never forget you and we will never forget your Ranger. Fondly, Susan Wankner and family... and of course Donner _ Tired of spam?
