Happy 1st Birthday

2003-06-29 Thread Andrea Stefanac
Hi all,
Sorry the previous post was sent from my aol account
and so was in HTML. Here it is again in plain text:

Hi all,

I would like to wish a huge Happy Birthday to L-Sin's
Blue litter. They turn one year old today. Our own
Barkley (L-Sin's Dark Blue Moon) celebrated with a
McDonald's cheeseburger and spending time in his newly
fenced backyard (which had better keep him in the yard
finally!).

Birthday wishes go out to Bark's littermates- Mona,
Bonniblu, Navy, and Riley.

Bark was an unexpected addition to our family. His
original owner wanted to return him to the breeder and
due to circumstances, my husband Chris and I drove
down to pick up Barkley for his breeder with the
intention of keeping him a week and returning him the
following weekend. The 8 month old dog we picked up
was 20 lbs underweight, loaded with tapeworms, and had
a bad skin infection. He was so sweet and calm,
though, that Chris fell in love with him and we
decided to hold on to him for a few weeks. Dakota the
mutt adjusted well enough to Bark, but Chance the
Berner boy had his nose way out of joint for a long
time. They seem to have adjusted now though and have
some kind of a truce between them.

Now Bark is definitely here to stay. He has regained
his health and is finally up to correct weight. We
will give him a while longer to mature some and to
gain some confidence (he's unsure of himself in new
settings- lack of socialization perhaps?) and then
hopefully Barkley will be my first conformation show
dog. I am very excited about (hopefully) finally
being able to join those in the ring, after watching
ringside for 5 years. Any and all showing tips are
greatly appreciated! Until Bark is ready to show, we
are taking obedience classes to learn some manners (he
had none) and some low-key agility to gain confidence.
He loves them both. I have posted pictures of Bark
taken last weekend in the Showberners yahoogroups
photo section in the Stefanac album.

Thank you Sindi for trusting us with Barkley. I look
forward to all that he and I can do together.

Cheers,
Andrea Stefanac

Happy 1st Birthday

2003-01-09 Thread Graeme . Coetzee
Good morning everyone on the Berner-L

Today is my first birthday and I am very excited. However, now that I think about it,
I'm always very excited! Standing next to the bed and waiting for Mom and Dad to stir
first thing in the morning is exciting. Running laps up and down the passage as Mom
and Dad make their way to kitchen to organise breakfast is exciting. Breakfast is
exciting! You get the picture.

Anyway Dad had to go work this morning and couldn't stay and give me chest and belly
rubs all day, but he said he would make up for it when he gets home. I was also
promised an extra special walk this evening, a generous brush of my dark shiny coat
and maybe even a treat or two with supper! Supper is exciting.

Mom unfortunately is out of town for my birthday, but Dad said he'd let me talk on the
phone this evening. But the phone just isn't the same. When Dad puts the receiver
next to me, I cock my head slightly, and search the room for mom, but I just can't
seem to track her down. I'll just have to wait until she gets home...and then get
excited to see her.

If Mom were at home, I really hope she would invite her friend Andrea to come visit.
Andrea has got a little daughter called Georgia. Georgia is about my age and I find
her absolutely fascinating. Georgia and I will lie on the lawn together and she will
immerse herself in my fluffy softness. Eventually the temptation will get too much and
I'm compelled to give her as many berner kisses as possible, all over her face.

In the meantime I'll keep myself amused in the company of Homer J - my rough
collie(older)brother. My brother and I get on like a house on fire. We even had to be
separated at obedience lesson's because the teacher said we spoke too much, to each
other in the class, and distracted the other dogs.

Anyway I a have a ton of mischief to get up to (garden landscaping etc), so I'll be
signing off, but not before wishing all my littermates, all over South Africa and
beyond, a very happy birthday.

Cheers
Thelonious or Theloni Mouse, or Tony Polony, or Tony Bear, or Tony the Gas, or finally
Pablo (for the positions I twist my body into when lying down, that are reminiscent of
Pablo Picasso painting).
