2006-04-21 Thread Michael Herger
Has this moved? There's no indication that the plugin is failing to
load.

It's got its own folder Plugins/Podcast. Did you run your server with the
d_plugins parameter? You have to run it from the console/command window to
see the startup messages.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Firmware 43

2006-04-21 Thread Wirrunna

Installed SlimServer_v2006-04-21.exe over SlimServer_v2006-04-15 on
WinXP (AMD 64 X2 3800, 1Gb RAM), SB3, Netgear WGR614V4 wireless router,
upgraded firmware to 43.
SB3 would only fill buffer to max of 60% and stutter occasionally.
Re-installed SlimServer_v2006-04-15, did not change firmware and all
works perfectly with buffer at 100% until near the end of a song, where
the buffer empties gracefully before loading the next song.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Podcast plugin in 6.5

2006-04-21 Thread Phil Meyer
It's been a while since I tried to use this plugin. A friend has just enquired
about podcasts, and I was telling him how the slimserver can be used to
directly play podcasts, when I realised that my server doesn't seem to work
anymore.

The podcast plugin is present in the plugins folder, but the plugin is not
listed in server settings -> plugins. I believe there used to be a preference
section to configure rss newsfeeds for the podcast plugin.

Has this moved? There's no indication that the plugin is failing to load.

With FW43 my wireless SB3s now play ALAC->FLAC files without stuttering.
Unfortunately my wired SB2 still stutters on these files (works fine on
MP3s).

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Running slimserver not as service

2006-04-21 Thread Des

Ok, I now have the slimserver running under 'des' as indicated in the
process list.

However, I'm still getting:

"Oops - "\\queen\musicclo" doesn't seem to be a valid directory. Try
again."

when I try and point the server at the media.

I have tried the UNC style above and the S:\ drive style with the same
results.

The share is attached as user/passname : mediause/***

Is there a debugging option that would help?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Running slimserver not as service

2006-04-21 Thread Des

Ok, this is where the confusion starts!

I have gone into manage->Services and Applications->Services and
brought up the properties on service 'slimserver'.

On the 'Log On' tab I select 'This account' and browse.

My account is 'Des'. So I type 'des' into the selection panel and hit
'Check Names', the name is expanded to 'KING\Des', KING is my computer
name. Hit 'ok'.

Back on the Log on tab, the account name is now '.\Des'.

However, it also wants a password! I don't have a password. I have
several user accounts on an XP Pro SP2 using fast user switching. If I
just whack any old password in and try and start the service, it fails
with 'Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure'

Err, I'm stumped at this point. :-( Any ideas

You need to run the service under something other than the LocalSystem
account.

Go to Services and look at the Properties for the SlimServer. Have it
Login as another user. You can create a new account just for the
service or use and existing one. Either way, give that account rights
to read from the share. Stop and restart the service and you should be
good to go.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Windows Process Priority & Standby

2006-04-21 Thread chris . mason

I'd like to add my voice to the "please make this optional" crowd.
I don't believe Windows processes should by default take a high
priority.
This would explain why I've been having problems. I installed 6.2.2
yesterday and had a variety of issues, which I tracked down to Slim
having a high priority. Eventually, I was able to change this to
normal, and everything was OK again.
The problem arises when rescanning a MusicMagic (or Music IP now)
library. Because Slim takes all the CPU priority, I think MIP runs
into trouble. As a general rule, processes should be Normal, and set
to high as the need arises perhaps.
So, while 6.2.2 is set as High by default I'm not going to be able to
use it.

Chris.
