Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Explain Synch and Synch with SN

2007-10-17 Thread Michael Herger
 I have 3 SB3s - does this mean I can
make them all (or 2 of 3) pllay at the same time and react when I make a
change on one (like skip a song)?

Yes.

Can this be done with the remote or do

Yes: go to Settings/Synchronization, select the player with which you want
to sync your current player, hit RIGHT.

they have to be set up using the server?

You can do this as well. In SC7 there's a sync panel in the player drop
down list (at the bottom) where you can check the players to be synched.

 Is it a semi-permanent thing
then - i.e. if I set two up they will always power up and play together
 until I say diferently?

You can define the power behaviour in the player settings of the
application.

Finally - does the SC setting under Squeeze
network need to be enabled to make this work?

No, that's something completely different. That setting means that your
local preferences such as screensaver used, brightness, font size etc. are
synchronized with your account on SQN, to give you the same settings when
not connected to your local SC.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Nightly Build - Size Mismatch?

I tried again last night, but the update manager still gave the same
error. I tried
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=200237postcount=9, but
only the SC package itself was given as the size mismatched package.

I tried using apt-get from a terminal and this works flawlessly.

Yes it installs normally after the wait, but the first couple times I
thought something was wrong and hit 'cancel' which caused a fatal
application error.

It hangs after specifying the program folder and start menu options and
clicking 'install'. The progress bar comes up but there is no progress
for up to five minutes, after which it behaves as expected (unpacks
quickly, wizard comes up if I deleted prefs, or the interface comes up
and starts scanning if not).

[SlimDevices: Beta] AlienBBC on SC7

2007-10-17 Thread funkstar

I don't know if the problem lies with SC7 or with AlienBBC, but i've
found i can no longer use the number pad of the remote to jump down the
list.

I in 6.5.x I could go into the AlienBBC listing and hit 1 then 0 and
get to 6Music.

Something else i've noticed is that if you go into the Live Streams
there are 8 entries, if i press 8 i jump to the end, any other number
just returns me to 1.

Any ideas?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Clearing cache at startup ?

2007-10-17 Thread erland

Is it correct that the caches are cleared at SqueezeCenter startup ?

I get messages like this in the log:
[18:08:48.1351] Slim::Utils::Cache::cleanup (202) Cache purge:
FileCache - 2.781851 sec
[18:09:19.8200] Slim::Utils::Cache::cleanup (202) Cache purge: Artwork
- 31.368831 sec

The result of this is that it can take some time to startup
SqueezeCenter if it has been turned off for a few hours. I guess it
isn't a big issue, I'm just wondering if this is the correct behaviour
or not ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] keys for debian package verif

2007-10-17 Thread snarlydwarf

It isn't complaining about you not having the key: it is complaining
that the package isn't signed.

Ie, the auto-builder doesn't sign the packages.

Whether it should or not is another question: since it is an autobuild,
does having the package signed really mean anything? (It means this
was really built from the source repository, but anyone with SVN access
could have messed with that. in fact, it would have been -easier- to
mess with the SVN feeding the autobuilder than it would have been to
replace the .deb with something else.)

The value of signed debs is dubious.

Oh, and this didn't change with Slimserver: the nightlies have never
been signed (and I don't think the releases are either...). Something
else change on your system (apt-utils maybe) that told it to verify
package signatures.

Pages that contain more attributes than what can be shown on one page
doesn't work since there is no scrollbar.

Shouldn't the plugin entries also be available as tabs or have you
decided that the only way to access plugin settings is through the
Settings button beside the plugin in the Extras tab ?

In the other skins there is an Extras entry but also a Custom

Arrgh... FF? Everything was fine until I noticed that IE7 (but not IE6)
displayed _two_ scrollbars, one of which didn't do anything. Thus I
started fiddling with various settings, until all were fine but Safari.
Some more fiddling later we seem to have broken FF :-(.

They're available in advanced. But the links in the Extras tabs should be
fixed, too.

We wanted to clean up the main screen, hiding anything remotely exotic in
the Advanced tab. Whether the plugins will stay there or not is still to
be defined. You just gave use a first feedback. Thanks!

I had a similar issue on my first install of SC7 - the server
automatically stopped after a few seconds. I'm on OSX 10.4.10.

Managed to get things working by deleting the cache files located in
~/Library/Caches/SlimServer and then reinstalling. It might be worth
looking into the log file to see why the server is stopping as well.
The error I was getting was:

Warning: Database error: Can't DROP 'thumb'; check that column/key
exists at
/Users/goog/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/CPAN/DBIx/Migration.pm
line 115.

Anyway, the clearing of the cache seemed to do the trick for me, but if
you are getting a similar error, then maybe there is a problem with the
upgrading path on OSX?

[SlimDevices: Beta] More on the iPod Touch

2007-10-17 Thread gharris999

OK, so now that I've jailbroken my iPod Touch, I'm much less
disappointed by it. But it still won't play SqueezeCenter's mp3
stream. The touch will play a MP3 file served by a web server just
fine (e.g. http://www.hegardtfoundation.org/temp/test.mp3) but it won't
play SqueezeCenter's http://scip:9000/stream.mp3. The touch is using
quicktime as the media player. Launching quicktime on my PC and
opening the URL http://scip:9000/stream.mp3 doesn't work either. But
iTunes (on the PC, not the touch) plays the stream just fine.

So...what is this, a bug? (i.e. SqueezeCenter's stream.mp3 is
incompatable with Quicktime) or should this be an enhancement? (i.e.
Make SqueezeCenter's stream.mp3 compatable with quicktime.)

Either way, the Touch (at 1/3rd the physical volume of a N800, but with
nearly the same screen real estate) would make a pretty cool remote
client for SqueezeCenter if this problem got fixed.

No, they will not.

The ONLY things they add are Official Debian Releases.

SC can not be a part of an Official Debian Release without being very
crippled because some things (ie firmware, fonts, logos) do not fit
DFSG.

It doesn't matter how many people want it: Debian rules are very
strict.

Debian includes FireFox, its just called IceWeasel. There is no
practical difference, but the name of the package and the default logo.

I understand that the Debian folks are serious about their religion. I'm
cool with that.

FireFox or really Mozilla, insists on control of branding. Debian argued
about it for more than a year. In practice, its a meaningless argument.
Debian doesn't include FireFox, but Ubuntu does, and Ubuntu has the most
mindshare. So in practice, there is a firefox.deb

I don't need your snide hints. which are clearly personal attacks on

I just SVNed up and it still doesn't seem to work. The Touch's
quicktime just displays a circle 'n slash indicating that it doesn't
like the stream. I captured a part of the stream using other tools and
I posted it to a web server. The Touch's Safari/Quicktime didn't have
any trouble playing that. So, I guess the problem has more to do with
how SqueezeCenter serves up the stream rather than the content of the
stream itself.

Isn't SqueezeCenter's stream.mp3 streaming code sort of shoutcast
based?

By the way, in the latest SVN, there doesn't seem to be a way to clear
the Repeat Playlist setting for a stream client. It seems to be
locked onto repeat.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Recent web configuration changes

2007-10-17 Thread gerph

Hiya,

I did a svn update from yesterday's version and I think it's happened
overnight (or maybe in the last couple of days and I didn't notice) but
the whole web configuration has changed to a new style.

It's different, although it'll take me a while to find things I'm sure.
On Opera (9.23), however, the pane in the middle doesn't get a
scrollbar. In IE 7 it does get a scrollbar, but Opera doesn't give one
so it's not obvious initially that (For example) the Player pane can be
scrolled.

That's odd. I really thought I had tested this: IE7 used to display _two_
scrollbars. I therefore had to change some styles, which obviously have
removed them from the other browser all together... I'll take a look at
these early tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback.
