Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Album Tracks Spread Across Different Directories

2009-09-04 Thread MikeekiM

While I understand what you are saying, I would likely handle the
different releases by creating a different album title... As an
example:

Michael Jackson - Thriller
Michael Jackson - Thriller (1998 Reissue)
Michael Jackson - Thriller (25th Anniversary Edition)

I know many people (including myself) that separate tracks based on
whether they are Lossless or Lossy... And I have some CDs that I bought
that come with bonus tracks as lossy downloads... So to keep the
integrity of my system/structure, I have the songs split between the
lossy and lossless directories (doesn't make sense to have a lossy file
in a lossless directory, right?)... iTunes and other players have
always handled these situations as I would expect... I don't want to
call it normal...I guess because it is what I am used to, and the
players I have used in the past behave this way, I just assume that SC
should behave that way too...

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Album Tracks Spread Across Different Directories

2009-09-04 Thread Phil Meyer
While I understand what you are saying, I would likely handle the

As the snarlydwarf indicated, this is the Greatest Hits issue. For cases
like that, it would be obvious that there could be clashes of album name, and
thus when tagging the album, you could change the name to Queen Greatest Hits
and Squeeze Greatest Hits.

But that isn't always obvious. eg. I have album name clashes (same title,
completely different artists, genre, etc), that I would not have thought about
initially.

eg. I have two albums called 2, two albums called Blue, three albums called
Planets, etc.

The correct thing to do is to assume that files in different folders are
different albums.

There is however a way to get the scanner to realise that tracks in different
folders are part of the same album, and that is to add COMPILATION=0. Not sure
if this is intentional, and whether it will always continue to work in the
future, as it is a bit of a frig. The presence of a compilation tag tells the
scanner to join the songs together, but setting the tag to 0 tells the scanner
that it is not actually a compilation album.

If you've disabled the plugin, you probably don't want to get there
anyway. This seems like an unlikely case to really worry too much
about. I think you can still get to it via SN though.

I don't think it's at all unlikely. A lot of people disable any
plugins that they don't use to minimize the gargantuan memory footprint
of SbS. If they later want to try out something like Napster and
install it from SN it won't appear in their menus.

What I'm suggesting is that it should still be placed into the menus,
but when selected prompt for a swtich to the mysb.com server. There's
no reason to disable it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Album Tracks Spread Across Different Directories

2009-09-04 Thread MikeekiM

I completely understand where you guys are going with this...

However, I think there needs to be more intelligent way of using the
meta data that is there for our use and abuse, rather than count on
the directory structure... I have friends that simply dump all their
music in one big music directory, and let the application use the meta
data to sort through it... People are building directory structures by
genre or artist or album... heck, so me might even sort by BPM... To
assume that everyone keeps all their albums in a single directory might
be too much of a leap...

If we simply exploit the meta data to filter the data (across file
directory boundaries), I think we have a fantastic solution...

Some examples:

Primary Search by Artist - If I seek out Michael Jackson, then show me
all the unique albums that are from Michael Jackson. And if his
Greatest Hits album is cut across lossless and a lossy directory,
ignore the file structure... why should any normal user be bound and
restricted by what should be a back-room infrastructure?

Primary Search by Album - If I seek out Greatest Hits, then allow me
to perform a secondary filter on artist... Again, ignoring the back-end
infrastructure of file directories, etc...

Here's what I see:

- Napster plugin is disabled on local SC
- Napster was installed from test.sn.com and 'Display on home menu
selected' for SB Touch.

1. Napster didn't appear on Touch's Home menu until I rebooted the
Touch.

2. Napster does appear under My Apps.

3. When selected under My Apps, I see a screen about being subscribed
under the 30 day trial, but nothing about switching to mysqueezebox.com
server. If I 'Continue to Napster', I can browse Napster content, but
when I try to play I get a blank NP screen showing the title, no
artwork, and no audio output.

4. When selected from the Home menu, I get the 'switch library' screen
and can switch to mysb.com. Then I get the screen about the trial
account. Navigation and playing work as expected.

If I remove the menu selection from the Home menu at test.sn.com (again
requiring a reboot to take effect) and try again from My Apps, I get the
same behavior as before in #3 - it doesn't offer to switch to SN and
can't play audio. So it seems I get the behavior you expected, but only
when it's on the Home menu.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Information Browser - issues browsing BBC News

2009-09-04 Thread Phil Meyer
I've noticed recently that whilst browsing BBC News stories using information
browser, occasionally the SB3 screen will change to show locale strings, such
as PLUGIN_INFOBROWSER.

eg. whilst scrolling down through a news item (eg get to line 62 of 120), lines
1 2 would suddenly change to plugin string constants, and I'll have to
left-arrow out of the BBC News and go back in to see the content again, and
start scrolling through from line 1 of 120 again.

Quite annoying. Not sure yet if it is something specifically with BBC News
stories (via the BBC info browser addon), or generic issue with Information
Browser.

Only started happening within the last couple of weeks, I believe.

[SlimDevices: Beta] New MySqueezebox.com (test.squeezenetwork.com) site layout

2009-09-04 Thread JJZolx

1. The Home page looks like it was drawn with crayons. Everything is
gigantic. Logos, icons, fonts. A little too much white space also,
which combined with the large page header and the giant scrolling
service icons pushes the main page body down (and probably off for some
people) screen.

The other pages are fine in their font and icon sizing, but again the
white space and large header take up too much space. I find myself
scrolling some pages up a little to see the main content.

2. The pages are set in a fixed width, but it's about 30-40 pixels too
wide to fit on a 1024 pixel wide display. You shouldn't have horizontal
scroll bars at that size.

Much better than the old design a quantum leap I say !, it's functions

new exciting offers from our partners
The main focus for me is that I want to use and admin my players, a
little vague but it's the feel I get.

And now in the spirit of this tread ;) I relieved by the fact that
logitech realizes that they have invented the only shade of green that

How about color themes to the web-UI for SBS sans that green ?
