Doesn't the S in LMS stand for Server ?
LMS = Logitech Media Server

Seems strategic to me, getting "Logitech" in the name is a good idea
and "Media" is also good because it opens up the possibility to use it
for a lot of other things than just music.

Feels like a name like "Logitech Media Server" could live a lot longer
than a name tied to a specific hardware product like "SlimServer",
"SqueezeCenter", "Squeezebox Server", it's also a lot better than
changing it to "Logitech Revue Server" or something similar. So overall
I kind of like it.

As I've been saying from the beginning... I can only voice my request
and hope that it gets some attention. I do not pretend that I'm going
to fix anything. So far, the developers have fixed must of the bugs I
have brought to the surface that affected my setup... but your
experience might be different. If the new culture of Logitech as it
refers to SBs changes for the worse... I will seek greener pastures.
Right now, I feel no need to do so.

I certainly don't expect Logitech to invest scarce development

Is MusicIP generating mixes correctly with SBS using libraries that
have no foreign characters in their path? Answer: YES

Is MusicIP generating mixes correctly with SBS using libraries that
have foreign characters in their path? Answer: NO

Is there a "dependency" on the on the paths and filenames for MusicIP
and SBS to generate a mix successfully?... Answer: YES

Is there something broken on the underlying platform (OS) that prevents
MusicIP from generating a successful mix?... Answer: NO

The logical answer for me would be to: Fix the issue in SBS that's
preventing mixes with foreign characters in their path. That's the
problem.

The problem is not the fact that I use foreign characters to name my
paths and filenames which are fully supported by the underlying
plataform. I use the "correct" names for my albums, artists and tracks
at the file structure level so that I can use any tool to search and
manipulate my files when tags are not an option.

As the cliche says... We'll have to agree to disagree.

I don't think that's a bad guess. My guess is that the majority -- or
at least a significant minority -- of folks who use SBS systems have
music libraries tagged in various languages, and use players and
software that get their metadata from tags instead of from filenames
and foldernames. Like you, I have a lot of music that's not in English,

Actually, MiP playlist generation is important enough to me that I
would rename the files and playlists in that situation, as long as (1)
I could use incorrect-but-still-recognizable substitutes for the
unsupported letters in the file_names_ (such as á in place of a, ë in
place of e, ô in place of o, etc), and (2) the tags still showed the
correct a, e, i, o and u. Which is exactly the current situation with
the MiP plugin, just reversed.

I appreciate all the suggestions regarding bulk renaming... but I'm not
going to rename anything. The MusicIP mixes issue is not with my tags,

folks that use SBS systems are tagged in English. I have a large
collection of Latin and World music. I want the ability to find and
display the names of my tracks, albums and artist as they were meant to
be. Ask yourselves... how would you feel if the MusicIP mixes with SBS

Good point. I'm not sure I'd like LMS to combine video content into my same

want videos, such as TV programs or ripped movies to be picked up in random

Mount ISO at server and stream content. I guess the menu structure
could be sent although with DVD ISOs most people aren't too bothered
about the annoying menu systems as long as content is navagable.

You would need to give people the choice of audio stream. I like to
watch my films with original soundtrack and subtitles... doch my
mandarin is worse than my non-existant german.

However there is HiDef content and it doesn't tend to stream well over
wireless connections. HiDef ISOs weren't dealt with by most products
when I last looked.

There are I believe tools that produce rips in ISO format with just the
video in it. I have never used these tools but from looking at other
product forums (like the WDHDTV one) I recollec this as being a format
some people use.

Me... I like the convenience of taking content I own and accessing it
via a digital Juke Box. I like having physical originals as backups.
I find the chains of the DRM and Physical worlds inconvenient. The
pre-DRM CD is a good model for video but not one that content producers
like.

The Boxee box will display the DVD menus and stuff. That's part of the
appeal since it is like having access to the DVD without the physical
DVD. Much like you can mount an ISO with Daemon Tools so it looks like
a drive and then play the mounted image through your DVD player software
of choice on your PC.

I guess this wouldn't work with the Revue architecture if you are
relying on a server much like the squeezebox devices. The Review would
have to actually mount the ISO image for this to work.

This is all a pretty cool development. It would be awesome if DVD ISO
images could be supported in some fashion. I recently researched
setting up my DVDs online much like my music. The only device out
there now that supports DVD ISO is Boxee. However, I like the Logitech
Revue hardware muhc better - more connection options. So I held off for
the time being. As soon as the Revue supports ISO files, I'm buying
one, and then probably another one! That would be a huge bonus to not
have to run a separate server for the video either.

Interestig developments...

of sentences at the end of each day, before you go home, not a lot of
time please!

That's correct. onebrowser isn't an attempt to make ip3k menus available on SP,
but consolidation of the various ways we had implemented to browse your music
collection.

No, it simply means that onebrowser does not address anything within
this area of functionality. You might ask if -Squeezebox Server 7.6-
intends to address this issue, but again, it doesn't seem likely.

Ok - because people are asking to get this feature for SqueezePad - and
if that feature was planned to be consolidated for SqueezePlay one
didn't need to implement features in the client.

But I interpret your answer as "do not hope to see 'rescan library' in

Thanks for that.

I had thought that daylight savings could possibly be the cause of the
rescan of all files, but then dismissed the idea. I didn't know it had
been previously discussed on this forum.

Did the daylight savings change happen between the two updates? If so,
that will happen with a new & changed scan. See the following thread:

Well, they have fuzzy plans to release this version in the next 90
days, so it would be difficult to believe that it won't be fixed by
then.

Same happened to me on two different setups with 32215. I added a
couple of albums and started a "Look for new and changed music scan".

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] MusicIP and foreign characters... Here I go again.

2011-04-05 Thread Nikhil

If you have access to a linux/unix machine you could simply run the
'detox' (http://detox.sourceforge.net/) utility which 'cleanses'
filenames without altering the modification date. On a different note,
if you actually use MusicIP server on linux, I've also found that while
the Mac & Win MusicIP GUI is incapable of analyzing tracks longer than
10 minutes, the linux MusicIP server has no such limitation.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Version: 7.6.0 - r32219 - Perl interpreter fail

2011-04-05 Thread Wirrunna

It looks to me that there was a major change to the scanner process
between r32108 and r32215.
Checking server.log on my test box showed a couple of scans completed
successfully then r32215 was installed and a scan initiated which
resulted in :
[11-04-04 11:26:10.9754] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::__ANON__ (333)
Rescanning changed files (48384)
[11-04-04 11:26:10.9859] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::deleted (435)
Handling deleted track
file:///F:/Music/MP3%20from%20Bucky/MP3/Wolf%20Parade/Apologies%20to%20the%20Queen%20Mary/It%27s%20A%20Curse.mp3
[11-04-04 11:26:11.5803] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::changed (726)
Handling changed track
file:///F:/Music/FLAC%20-%20new/AC%20DC/Back%20In%20Black/01.%20Hells%20Bells.flac
[11-04-04 11:26:11.7085] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::changed (726)
Handling changed track
file:///F:/Music/FLAC%20-%20new/AC%20DC/Back%20In%20Black/02.%20Shoot%20To%20Thrill.flac
.
.
.
It decided every track on this drive was changed.
