LMS should already transcode FLAC to PCM for DLNA clients, no extra work required... Before you get too far with this it may be a good idea to find out at what level the Sony is declaring the file type as unsupported. That is, is the Sony looking at the contents of the file, or only the name? If it's the latter, then I don't think what you're proposing will work. Here's a test you can do. Take a copy of a WAV file, rename it to have a .flac extension, and put it in your music library. Then try to play it with the Sony. If the Sony won't play it then you're unlikely to have much luck with the server-side decoding either, because the Sony will still be looking at the FLAC files, not knowing that they will be served up as something else. This is one approach for using LMS with DLNA devices that seems to work better than the official DLNA server. And in general, one can have FLAC files decoded on the server to PCM by changing the settings in LMS > SETTINGS > ADVANCED > File Types. Presume that after 125 views and no replies that is is obviously much more difficult than I thought.
