Could you have a firewall or authorization issue ? I just tried with
foobar2000 on my Win7 machine, co-located with LMS and in 'view','UPnP
controller' I now see all my SB devices

LMS 7.7.2 - 5 radio, 3 Boom, 4 Duet, 1 Touch, 1 SB2. Sonos 2xPLAY:1,
PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, JBL OnBeat, XBMC, Foobar2000, XBoxOne
(sort of)

Hmm. That doesn't seem to work. I have the plugin running and the LMS
library is visible over UPnP. But the Play To (actually Cast to Device
in Win10) doesn't contain the Squeezebox. I've checked with the DLNA
plugin in Foobar and it's the same thing: no Squeezebox detected...

Yes, on Win a right click on a audio file will show you a menu to send
it to UPnP devices. If you activae Andy's plugin, then that menu will
list as well LMS devices

LMS 7.7.2 - 5 radio, 3 Boom, 4 Duet, 1 Touch, 1 SB2. Sonos 2xPLAY:1,

Is there any way of doing this? I often would like to just send a file
from my laptop to be played by LMS on my big speakers in a simple way...

Yes they do that to avoid pops further they also mute when you change
samplerate. 44.1 vs 96k for example

No because a device can advertise itself as

1- A server from which multimediafiles can be retrieved by clients
2- A renderer/client/player that is capable of playing back files when
told to do so

On top of that, a device can have 2 functionnality

3- Be able to browse UPnP servers and request file from them
4- Controlling (be a remote) of other renderers

Of course 2- and 3- are (I think) always linked together. So, in the
case of LMS, the Andy plugin brings

a- Every SB device in now a UPnP renderer (2- and 3-) that can be used
by any UPnP control point
b- LMS is a UPnP server and database becomes visible to other, non-LMS,
UPnP client (1-)

Are you using a digital output? If so, is it possible that whatever
component is receiving the digital signal defaults to a mode other than
what the SB is sending and doesn't switch back to the proper one until
it detects a signal?

One of my Touches is connected to a receiver that for some reason
insists on defaulting to DTS for that particular input. So attempting
to play a standard 16/44.1 stereo track results in the loss of the
beginning of the track while the receiver switches back to standard PCM.
As you say, thereafter it's fine.

To me, what Philippe says contradicts what Rmjb just said. Rmjb says ;
The plugin does NOT expose the players, while Rmjb says that the plugin
makes every player CONTROLABLE. What is it that I do not understand
here? Is a controlable UPNP device not the same as an exposed DLNA
device?
