The number in the nightly build is just the revision ID of the latest commit
in the subversion source code management system. It's largely meaningless.

Or do you mean something else?

I'm working on a cross platform one written in Python that creates an XML
file containing details of all the music on the server. All I need is some
help with some XSLT transformations to be able to convert it into a pretty
printed output.

A request for help on the XSLT front as well as to test the Python side got

I'm not sure that it will import tag information from the CUE sheet. The CUE
sheet in the FLAC file might be purely for track time information.

You should really be using VORBIS comments to store the metadata in.

What operating system are you using?

If Linux, my flactag utility can retrieve metadata for an album from the
Musicbrainz service, and write it to the flac file.

Ok. Can someone give me a step by step guide to getting SqueezePlay to play
audio (rather than just control an instance of SoftSqueeze)?

If I go the main menu and select 'Test Decode' I can get it to play the
various tones. If I go into 'Settings' -> 'Advanced' -> TEST_PLAYBACK I get
two options:

x.x.x.x (the ip.address of my server)
my.server.name (the name of the same server)

If I press 'Right' on the IP address, it remains in this menu. If I press
'Right' on the server name it goes back up to the 'Advanced' menu.

Is the fact that I'm running an instance of SoftSqueeze on the same machine
as SqueezePlay causing problems?

Thanks for any help.

I think I've mentioned before, but it's worth repeating, that the instance
of SqueezePlay is far remote from the SlimCenter. I have the firewall opened
up sufficiently that SoftSqueeze works just fine from the remote location.

Hi,

If I do this on Squeezeplay, it give me two choices. The first is the IP
address of my music server, the other is the name of my music server (the
same machine).

If I select the IP address, nothing appears to happen (after a few seconds
it goes back to the 'Now Playing' screen). If I select the server name, it
immediately goes back to the 'Advanced' settings menu.

The instance of SqueezePlay is 'remote' from the server. However, I can run
SoftSqueeze without any problem from the same location as I'm trying to run
SqueezePlay.

Any ideas?

Have tried this numerous times and it never lists it as a player.

I'm yet to have any success in getting SqueezePlay to work as a player from
work (with my server on a Linux box at home). SoftSqueeze works flawlessly
using SqueezePlay as the 'control' app in this configuration, but I just
can't get SqueezePlay to work as a player.

I've also found that the last build I tried (a day or two ago) had the

Any hints greatly appreciated. Any extra firewall ports I need to open?

I'm a software engineer, and have developed a very 'keyboard centric' way of
working. I try to avoid having to touch the mouse if I can avoid it, it just
slows me down.

With SqueezePlay controlling the SoftSqueeze instance no my PC, it's very
simple to ALT-TAB to SqueezePlay, use the keyboard to navigate and select
some more music, change volume etc. I can't do a lot of that with the
keyboard alone using SoftSqueeze, and virtually none of it using the web
interface.

Definitely have UDP open too:

gently:~# iptables -L -v -n | grep 3483

Possibly. It's annoying if the 'A' shortcut doesn't work, and the volume
too, as there's no other way to access those features without the hotkeys.

Ok. Just trying now. Here's what I did:

1. Shutdown SoftSqueeze
2. Shutdown SqueezePlay
3. Uninstall SqueezePlay
4. Clear out the install folder (there were a few 'settings.lua' files, and
the log files in the top directory)
5. Download the latest SqueezePlay (dated 29th Oct, 01:07)
6. Install this
7. Run it
8. Hold down 'left cursor' to get to the top menu
9. Go to 'Settings->Music Source->Other server'
10. Enter my IP address
11. It goes back to the 'Music Source' menu, with the name of my server in
there
12. Go to this server, and use the right cursor to select it. All I get is
the noise that implies that I'm doing something wrong. I've got
further than this before though I'm sure.
13. Now, if I go up to the top and do 'Select player' all I get is the SB2
in my house
14. Go into 'Settings->Advanced->Audio Playback' and turn it on.
15. Back to the top level and into 'Choose Player'. Still only see the SB2
in my house. No evidence through my firewall logs of any packets
being dropped.

Any thoughts? It's connected to the server enough to be able to browse my
music. Could it be because the server already knows about the instance of
SoftSqueeze in the same remote location?

Thanks

Ok, I've now got a 'SqueezePlay' item listed in the players. However, if I
try to select this and go to my server, it tries to connect for a while,
then comes up with 'Problem Connecting'.

Around the time it gives up, my firewall logs the following packet:

Oct 30 10:14:11 gently kernel: FWIn: IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=82.5.225.118
DST=255.255.255.255 LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP
SPT=3483 DPT=3483 LEN=24

This appears to be a UDP broadcast going out from port 3483 on eth0 (the
interface that connects to my cable modem). I can't see this ever working.
Does SqueezePlay rely on this?

Again, could it be because I'm on 7.2 and not 7.3?

Just downloaded today (date on the file is 31-Oct-2008 07:01) and still no
joy with keyboard controls. Cursors work, but 'P', 'A', '-' and '+' don't.
Windows XP Pro, all service packs and security updates applied. Logged in as

What do 'z' and 'b' do? I know space toggles between pause and play. I'm
away from work for a week, will try either at home or when I go back.

Again, I'm not at work so will have to see whether I can do this. Might be
able to do it when I get home from our little break on Tuesday.

What environment variable is used to expand the home directory? Or is it a
registry key? I've tried creating

c:\documents and settings\andyh\.squeezeplay
h:\.squeezeplay

(the 'HOMEDRIVE' variable is set to 'H', and 'HOMEPATH' to '\')

However, it's still now working.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Changing music path had no effect

2006-09-15 Thread Andy Hawkins
Hi,

I've just been experimenting with tags on some of my files, and wanted to
limit my server to just a single album.

So I changed the music server path through the web interface, and did a full
re-scan (again from the web interface). It still seemed to be picking up all
my albums, and on further investigation I found that the slimserver.conf
hadn't been updated with the new setting.

I have the 'Prefs Write Interval' set to zero, which implies that preference
changes should be written to disk immediately.

This is running from a day or so old SVN from the 6.5 branch.

I got round it by stopping the server and manually editing the config file,
but I thought someone might be interested. Could it be a permissions problem
with the config file? It's only writable by the owner (root), so I guess
this could explain it?

Thanks

How do you strip this out? Is this easily playable on a number of players?

My portable device is a Cowon X7. There is no mention of MKV files on its
spec page:

http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/COWONX7/product_page_4.php

I tend to use MPlayer to drop the resolution down for playing on the
portable player. I wonder if this will handle converting MKV files?

Again, I'd need to check whether PC based players could do this downmixing,
and also whether the Cowon can do it. I'd ideally like to have one 'source'
file on the NAS (ths ISO) that I can create the different versions from
(ideally automatically if possible).
