This is an issue with 7.7.2 as well, I filed a bug on it, but we all

Anyway, the only way I could solve it was to start using a ram disk.

A line in on a touch doesn't make much sense, it would the require a
analog to digital converter to use the digital out.

No, they are both data discs just like I said. One format is Digital
Versatile Disc aka DVD and the other is Blu-ray format.

Neither have anything to do with video. They both have a file system
that can contain any type of file you want. Microsoft office
documents, mp3s, database files, what ever you want.

But if you want to call them both DVDs because they commonly contain
movie related files, go ahead.

A blu-ray isn't a digital video disc. It's a data disc that can
contain 25/50GB of data. DVD is a data disc that can contain 4/8GB of
data.

Just because both commonly are used to hold movies doesn't make either
a digital video disc. Sorry!

DVD is trademarked, and it doesn't mean digital video disc.

The discs might look similar but that's where they end. A blu-ray disc
physically isn't a DVD disc.

One of my pet peeves is when people call a blu-ray a "blu-ray dvd".

I think that might be related to the 7.6.2 build you were running. I
tried upgrading to the newest 7.6.2 build and had the same experience.
I had to rename the task bar launcher exe to get it to upgrade or it
went into an infinite loop stopping and starting.

I'm running last nights build on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server.

Using iPeng to browse my collection, I see the memory usage continually
climb as I browse around my artists bringing up album lists for those
artists.

Now maybe it's continually building a cache in memory and this is
normal? If so how much does it cache?

A friend here at work just mentioned this morning that the scan was
hanging on him with pre-caching artwork. He's running yesterday's
nightly build.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Composer, Conductor, Band and Orchestra in Artists prefs

2011-03-21 Thread Jeff Flowerday

If the "Composer, Band and Orchestra in Artists" flag isn't going stop
albums showing up of which the artist is a track composer, I'd like to
see an option added that will.

How it works right now, probably is preferred by some, if the tracks
actually listed that the artist was a composer of. In my collection
Bob Dylan has at least 100 extra albums with no tracks listed, it's
definitely not desired.

I see 2 options being required:
1) List all composers in Artist List
2) Include albums that the artist is a track composer in album list.

When these options are both off, the composer tag is basically ignored
except for when drilling down on additional song information.

I was so stoked, thinking, onebrowser would finally be the solution to
this problem on the controller, squeezeplay, iPeng etc.

But now I have hope it will be fixed in 7.6 I thought I was going to
go nuts by the time 8.0 came out. :)

Or if there are not plans to fix it in the current 7.6, start providing
us with a build with one browser.

couple bugs and there has been no reply nor have they been addressed.

Is the end ever going to come? I know delivery dates are impossible

No third party plug ins.

I'm on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. I had a version that worked
flawlessy about 3 months ago, then I made the mistake of updating to
the latest build and now going on 2 months of retrying and it plain
doesn't work. Complete uninstall reinstall, deleting the cache,
nothing helps. It simply won't scan and just hangs on a database lock.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning

2010-08-06 Thread Jeff Flowerday

Yah, scanning hasn't worked on x64 for a month or 2 now. No feedback
from anyone on the team.

All I can suggest is everyone just walk away from 7.6, until someone on
the Squeezebox team will step up and let us know it's fixed.

7.6's album art retreival is much faster as well. It's is pretty much a

I do with they would start takling some of the little bugs already.

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 Scanner won't recursively scan subfolders when the source is an UNC path

2010-05-12 Thread Jeff Flowerday

I've seen it on 2 different machines where the the 7.6 scanner won't
find any files under child folders.

Case 1: My server across the network to my media server.
Case 2: A friends homeserver where he was using UNC paths to his
collection.

Change the path to a non UNC and all is well.

2010-05-07 Thread Jeff Flowerday

I now see this is an issue that's been around for long time. It would
be nice if it was addressed, because it seems to now cause an issue on
the controller, you get busy and it never does anything when you choose
one of the albums the artist is a computer in. You eventually have to
choose back to cancel the action.

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 artist's albums include composer matches erroneously

2010-05-06 Thread Jeff Flowerday

I'm seeing albums under an artist that match by composer when I don't
have composer in artist turned on, on the server. This only happens in
squeezeplay, ipeng etc. The web interface lists the appropriate albums,
where the artist is either artist or album artist.

I'm running: Version: 7.6.0 - r30722

It's actually 9 local drives all munged togethor and managed by WHS's
drive extender. Thus the requirement to access the UNC. It's a no no
to do anything directly on the hard drives. Plus you really have no
idea which hd might actually have your media files on it.

Actually now that I think about it I'm not too certain this will work.
With WHS you need to access the unc path and the local system account
most likely won't have access to it.

The log files aren't empty. They are full of debug information all the
way up to the point where it crashed. At that point there is no error,
the scanner just quits scanning.

I did start with the WHS version and had the same issue. I moved away
from it to simplify the installation of the latest nighties and to see
if it was maybe the issue...

Ok, didn't realize that was an option with the user and password boxes

I reset them and now it's running as the local system account. I've

There are absolutely no entries in either log files. There is nothing
wrong with my setup. It ran 7.3.3 and all versions prior just fine and
there have been no config/hardware changes in the last 6 months.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner simply will not completely scan my library.

2009-09-22 Thread Jeff Flowerday

I've been trying nightly builds for a few days now and I can't get the
scanner to completely scan my WMA Lossless library. It keeps hard
crashing.

It's doesn't terminate in the same place twice and it doesn't log
anything to the log file. I've turned on DEBUG and I get no details. I
do get a windows event log entry about unable to JIT debug because of no
interactive user.

I'm now going to run a scan as an interactive user and see if I get any
more details...

Fine for me but not as simple for family members that I recommeded the
duet to, they are 500 miles away. I upgraded them to 7.3.2 to help fix
one issue only to have 4 new ones show up. Took too many support calls:
Locked up controllers, looping songs, and controllers that needed a
factory reset out of nowhere.

I plan on getting them on 7.3.3 and leaving them there until I can
measure the stability of future releases. If they are still having
issues with 7.3.3 they'll just have to live with it, or I'll have to
start begging for a 7.3.4

1) Make sure you have the album artist tag in your files.

2) Make sure the following setting in squeezecenter is set
appropriately. It's in the Behaviour section.

-Albums that contain songs that are tagged with a band may be listed
under that band name or with the other artists for that album. The band

Excellent! But now the developers need to figure out why squeezecenter
is now causing DEP exceptions on home server PP2?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Whs pp2

2009-03-27 Thread Jeff Flowerday

I RDPed into my server and saw a dep violation prompt, so I added the
squeezecenter service into the dep exclusion list and all was fine.

This only happened after the pp2 install. I've since rebooted my
server because I added a hard drive and the service started just fine.

There's already a bug filed(actually a couple). No sign of a fix
coming though it's going on 3 months now.

Has Squeezeplay development been temporarily put on hold? Seems like
there hasn't been much progress with the reported bugs lately.

Andy, these things really need to be tested before release. I know 4
people using the Duet besides myself and all of us have WMA Lossless
libraries.
