Michael Herger;242052 Wrote: The squeezecenter --install and net start squeezesvc installation is also working, so the problem was the missing Common AppData registry key. Great feedback, thanks! Will it be possible to fix this ? Windows 2008 core installation for sure isn't a priority for now. But we'll have to think about some fallback mechanism. But c:\programdata does exist by default? This could be a possible hard coded fallback value, if there's no registry entry. Could you please open a bug report against this? This will help us not to forget it. Thanks! Michael Bug report http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6140 The C:\ProgramData folder does exists per default and there are a environment variable called ProgramData with the value C:\ProgramData, so maybe this colud be a fallback. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Unattended setup
Tried a SlimServer_trunk_v2007-11-10.exe /VERYSILENT /SP- /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NOICONS and the c:\program files\SqueezeCenter and the c:\programdata\SqueezeCenter folder were created, but SqueezeCenter process died with the same error as before (C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWIN3~1\mysqld.ex e: Can't create/write to file '\SqueezeCenter\Cache\MySQL\/SqueezeCenter/Cache/squeezecenter-mysql.pid' (Errcode: 2)). Now there were also a c:\SqueezeCenter folder. Then I used the ServiceEnabler.exe program to make SqueezeCenter run as service, just to see if that made a difference, but no. I also tried with the /LOG option, but no installations errors. On another machine, I then made a new and full installation of Windows Server 2008 (RC0) and did exact the same installation as before (SlimServer_trunk_v2007-11-10.exe /VERYSILENT /SP- /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NOICONS). No problems at all and no c:\SqueezeCenter folder. So something is obviously going wrong during the first startup after an installation (on the core version). I just can#8217;t figure out what. The user on the full installation and the user on the core installation have the same environment variables. There is of course the difference between a full and a core (no html) installation of Windows 2008, so maybe the first startup is depending on some html stuff or something else that is not a part of an core installation. Please let me known if there is anything else I can try out. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Unattended setup
Michael Herger;241912 Wrote: '\SqueezeCenter\Cache\MySQL\/SqueezeCenter/Cache/squeezecenter-mysql.pid' (Errcode: 2)). Now there were also a c:\SqueezeCenter folder. That's odd. Can you open your server's registry and see whether there's a value for LMachine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell Folders/Common AppData ? Then I used the ServiceEnabler.exe program to make SqueezeCenter run as service, just to see if that made a difference, but no. ServiceEnabler won't work without a GUI. So you're seeing different results on different machines? Are you using core installs on both of them? Please let me known if there is anything else I can try out. Core probably doesn't initialize those registry keys, as there's no Explorer running? You should still be able to install using the --prefsdir/cachedir etc. options. Michael I'm running Server Core on one machine and a full version of Server 2008 (non-core) on another machine. It is possible to run a GUI installation on the server core version as long the installation doesn't want to create a icon on the desktop (because there are none and no explorer) or tries to start IE to display some html stuff. So it is possible to do a GUI installation with SlimServer_trunk_v2007-11-10.exe until the point where it tries to load the SqueezeCenter Setup Assistant. The Setup Assistant can then be loaded from another machine (http://xx.xx.xx:9000) to continue / finish the setup. Back to the problem. On the server core version the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\ key were empty, no Common AppData entry. On the non server core version, the Common AppData (and other) entries are OK. So on the server core version I created the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Common Data key pointing to C:\ProgramData and BINGO - now it is running (accept for the SetUp Assistant) The squeezecenter --install and net start squeezesvc installation is also working, so the problem was the missing Common AppData registry key. Will it be possible to fix this ?
