Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.8 Nightlies

2013-12-28 Thread Steve Baumgarten
I've found it certainly as stable as the last production release; no reason not
to give it a try. (I'm using it because I really appreciate the effort Michael
is putting into 7.8 improvements, especially regarding removing dependencies on
mysb.com for Tunein.)

What's irritating is that Foobar2000 handles auto-rescans perfectly. New
tracks show up almost instantly -- even over Wifi to a library on a
server. Deleted tracks disappear. There's clearly some way to code this on
Windows so that it works well, reliably and unobtrusively.

Erland's plugins are the solution you're looking for, even though, as he
says here, it's not a perfect solution. But I use them to create a
separate library for my kids -- I tag albums they like with a "KIDS"
comment, and then define a "KIDS" library to include only those tracks
with that tag. Then a couple of custom "Kids Artists" and "Kids Albums"
menus and they have an easy time browsing both in the web UI and
especially on their player, without having to wade through hundreds of
artists they're not interested in. It really works very, very well, though
again, it's not a perfect solution.

By the way, my kids really love their Squeezebox: they use the alarm in
the morning; SuperDateTime for the weather forecast and to follow MLB and
NBA games; they've set up favorites; they have their own playlist.
(Actually, playlist editing is one real bummer for them -- there's no good
way to do it, from what I can tell. I know, I shouldn't complain, I should
write some perl code to make it happen. In the meantime we're using Phil
Meyer's Playlist Man plugin that at least lets them add the "Now Playing"
track directly to their playlist.)

I guess my point is that they don't see all the under-the-hood
improvements, so for them right now the plugins -- Erland's especially --
are what really make the Squeezebox special and help differentiate it from
more generic music streaming hardware.

In fact I just downloaded and checked the latest nightly (6.2.1 - 4926),
and it's a problem there as well, so I just added bug 2428 for this.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Exbrowse3 vs. AlienBBC and Live365 in 6.2.0 release

2005-10-29 Thread Steve Baumgarten
The Exbrowse3 skin shows an empty listing for both AlienBBC and Live365
in Slimserver 6.2.0. Other menu choices under "Internet Radio"
(including radioIO, Shoutcast, etc.) show up as expected.

AlienBBC shows up fine with Fishbone and Default.

If this isn't something people know about, I'll put a bug in for it so
it can get looked at for 6.2.1.
