[SlimDevices: Beta] Pandora Stops

2008-02-19 Thread broth420

Another strange thing I have noticed over the last couple of weeks is
Pandora keeps stopping. I will be listening to a radio station and
suddenly, it will just stop. I use the Sirius plugin as well and am
not seeing the same behavior. The player doesn't lock up or anything.
The song ends, the stream stops, and the player goes into the RSS feed
(my screensaver). I don't remember this happening in 6.5x, but in 7.01
(latest nightly), it does. Is this normal behavior or something new? I
can go back to the radio station and play it again, but after a random
number of songs, it stops (similar to the end of an album)

[SlimDevices: Beta] Nokia 770 Skin Player Selection Issue

2008-02-19 Thread broth420

I am running the latest nightly beta 7.01 on Ubuntu 7.10 Server 32. I
use the Nokia770 skin on a Nokia N800. Mostly it works well, but one
thing I have noticed is I can't get the skin to change players. I
select a different player (it looks like it highlights it) and then
move to a different page, and I am back to the original player. Am I
missing something, or is there a problem with this feature? 6.5x does
not have the same issue.
Thanks, Bill

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7 won't start on Ubuntu

2007-09-05 Thread broth420

Repost from Linux/Unix forum

I don't know if this is the correct place for this, as I am not sure if
it is Ubuntu or 7.0a1 that I am having trouble with, but each time I try
to get the beta to install, it seems to install correctly, then says
"Starting slimserver audio server" repeatedly (maybe 7-9 times)at the
end of the install process. And when I attempt to open up the browser
to http://ipaddress:9000, it is a dead link. I can stop and start the
server using /etc/init.d/slimserver stop (or start), but still nothing
works. What am I missing (again, since most of these problems I have
are my own stupid fault)
Thanks in advance.
Bill

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7 won't start on Ubuntu

2007-09-06 Thread broth420

Well, here is the thing.
This is happening on clean builds, nothing changed from a default
install at all. Only updates. I basically build the system, do the
updates, and then follow the wiki to install slimserver.
On several different physical systems as well.
Just to make sure, I am building a system from scratch right now, and
will follow up. I am also going to install slimserver before I even do
the updates.

Manthis is really a hassle.
I got the script to run using your last set of instructions. However,
it blew up, but the text was so long, I couldn't copy it in from
putty.
But basically what I saw was I needed to install some extra components
libexpat1-dev
mysql-client
zlib
so I install those components
So here is what I am getting now

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7 won't start on Ubuntu

2007-09-08 Thread broth420

Here is what I did to get it to work (I think)

sudo mkdir /usr/share/slimserver
sudo chmod 777 /usr/share/slimserver

download the latest 7x build
saved it to /usr/share/slimserver
renamed it slimserver7.tar.gz

cd /usr/share/slimserver
tar xvfz slimserver7.tar.gz

renamed folder "SlimServer_trunk-v2007-09-08" to "slimserver7"

sudo chmod 777 -R /usr/share/slimserver/slimserver7
sudo apt-get install mysql-client
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get install libexpat1-dev
cd
wget http://www.zlib.net/zlib-1.2.3.tar.gz
tar -xvzf zlib-1.2.3.tar.gz
cd zlib-1.2.3
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/zlib
make
sudo make install
cd /usr/share/slimserver/slimserver7
sudo Bin/build-perl-modules.pl

I ignored all the errors I saw (which were the same as before)

sudo ./slimserver.pl

And this seemed to work
and I am telling you what, that is as clunky as it can get.
I still don't know if it is working correctly. Will follow up once
music directory is scanned and I can actually play something

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7 won't start on Ubuntu

2007-09-09 Thread broth420

I am running Ubuntu 7.4, fully patched, with only ssh and smbfs
installed. Oh, and the ATI drivers for my video card. no other
configuration changes at all. I am setting up paritions of swap, /,
and home, but I have tried to just run all the defaults and that didn't
work either.
I have tried this install on several different machines running 7.4
(both stock cd, and patched), and have not had any luck at all. Have
also tried desktop and server, and it made no difference. It installs
fine on my windows systems, but ubuntu is feeling left out, and on my
home network, Ubuntu can't feel that way :)
I am following the wiki instructions, and can get 6.5 to run without a
problem at all. Just in case you are wondering, there isn't any
version of slimserver installed on these systems before attempting to
install 7.
Maybe you meant something else, as far as rev?

[SlimDevices: Beta] scared to try

2007-10-10 Thread broth420

After reading the latest posts on Ubuntu/Debian installs of 7x, I am
wondering just how difficult it is going to be to try again to install
on Ubuntu 7.04. I looked at the wiki and the instructions must be
written for a way smarter linux user than me. The additions seem
confusing, but then again, I am not as familar with these processes as
some. At any rate, I am hoping someone has easy to follow instructions
to get 7x to run in Ubuntu 7.04 server. Would love to test, if I can
get it to work without 2 days of problems. Perhaps things are better
now using the old apt-get install method from the unstable repository.

apt-get install -f, and it installs the needed packages, and then
slimserver appears to start normally. Once I try and launch the
browswer to finsih the config, it just spins and spins, saying "loading

Ubuntu, but I don't typically run this app on a workstation. Just on
server.
