They have since added methods to the API for adding tags to a track,
album, or artist. So maybe we can do this at some point. Think about

how you think it should work, and whether it should also tag albums
and artists, and file an enhancement with details.

  2. The ability to exclude certain genres from being submitted (i.e.

Maybe, if it gets enough votes. Or better yet, submit a patch!

Hi Andy,

I'd love to submit a patch, but I wouldn't know how to, or have enough
time!

I'll have a think about the genre submit, and track exclusion and see
what I can come up with.
I quite like the Philips idea of LFM personas and libraries, but I only
have one LFM account, and don't tend to make use of multiple libraries.
It would make sense to me though, supporting dynamic use of multiple LFM
accounts, either by a specific tag or by library.

What are other people's views on submitting the genre with the track
information? Am I in a minority of people who like that?

For me it is useful for two reasons:

1. I like keeping track of all the stuff I've listened to, and being
able to chop it up by genre...I'm a bit anal like that.
2. I'm contributing tag information to Last.FM's pile o' metadata,
improving the listening experience for me and others (he said vainly)..

I'd see it working very simplyyou play a piece of music from your
own music library. The scrobbler submits track information as per
usual, but also submits the genre you have tagged it with. The
scrobbler also obeys the tag-separator you've specific in SC settings,
to allow for multiple genres.

As for submission exclusion, I would think I should provide the
scrobbler with a list of genre tags I've used on my music. If a track
is played that has one of those tags listed in the genre, that track is
not submitted.

I'd be interested in other's feedback on this before I submit an
enhancement request.

Chris.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Official Last.fm plugin

2009-07-14 Thread chris . mason

Is there any way to play group radio?
In James' plugin, which no longer works due to a change in the Last.fm
API (I'm guessing), I have to use the official plugin.

But I can't find a way of playing groups, saving groups, or playing
particular LastFM urls.

Any ideas? There are some things I like about the official plugin, but
more things I like about James...such as the ability to have tag info
submitted with your tracks, but thats another post I guess.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Official Last.fm plugin

2009-07-14 Thread chris . mason

OK, I realised I'm being a bit dense...you can use the lfm://
identifying to play any station (group or otherwise) in the station
tuner...and then also add it to the My Radio plugin I use.

What are the future plans for the official LFM plugin, what else might
be added?

Two things I'd love are:

1. Automatically tag submitted songs with the genre.
2. The ability to exclude certain genres from being submitted (i.e. so
my 8 year old daughters High School Musical tastes don't pollute my LFM
profile...)

wouldn't work. If slimserver is stopped and started several times then
 eventually all works fine.
I am using the following plugins and all work well

 AlienBBC 1.05 for 6.5
 Music Info Screensaver
 Custom Browse
Custom Display (really cool - like the volume control)
Weather Date and time (with edited pm file for 6.5 use)

Great work lads - keep it up

Hmm interesting, what is the Custom Display plugin? Sounds like
something I need..!

[SlimDevices: Beta] Is SlimServer 6.3 faster than 6.2.2?

2006-05-11 Thread chris . mason

Is it just my imagination, or has there been some optimisation work put
into 6.3? I recently upgraded to 6.3 from 6.2.2 (built on April 26th,
so not the official release).
I've noticed that server response using both softsqueeze and from the
web interface is much snappier.
Anybody else noticed this?

I'm running SlimServer 6.3 on Windows XP SP2, on an Intel P4 (2.5Ghz)
PC with 1Gb RAM. I'm also using MySQL 5 as the database.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Windows Process Priority Standby

2006-04-21 Thread chris . mason

I'd like to add my voice to the please make this optional crowd.
I don't believe Windows processes should by default take a high
priority.
This would explain why I've been having problems. I installed 6.2.2
yesterday and had a variety of issues, which I tracked down to Slim
having a high priority. Eventually, I was able to change this to
normal, and everything was OK again.
The problem arises when rescanning a MusicMagic (or Music IP now)
library. Because Slim takes all the CPU priority, I think MIP runs
into trouble. As a general rule, processes should be Normal, and set
to high as the need arises perhaps.
So, while 6.2.2 is set as High by default I'm not going to be able to
use it.

Chris.
