Hi, I had a similar problem installing a WHS test build a couple of months ago. I resolved it by manually starting the service once I got the "service could not start" message and then selecting retry in the install. (i.e. don't cancel the install when you see the error message start the service and then select the retry button in the install window). This is from memory, so sorry if it is not 100% accurate. Hi, Un-install and re-install of the WHS version seems to be working much better now. I un-installed the 7.4-25091 via the console (I did not need to go in and uninstall from an RDP session, I checked and squeeze centre was not given as an option in add/remove programs from the control panel). Install of 7.4-25258 went smoothly-ish, a few error messages were seen in a command prompt window, but all seemed to install fine. Music is now being scanned. I will report any problems. Hi, I have sort of got it working (i.e. system seems to work fine so far but the installation was not straight forward). Install of 7.4-25901 failed with the previously reported service startup error. With the installer still running I started and RDP session to the server and ran the squeezecentre.exe --install command you suggested earlier it installed the service but threw the error messages marked in (error 1.) below. The service installed and then selecting retry on the service start error message now completed the install. Interestingly my favourite radio stations where still available after install even though I had selected remove logs and preferences on more that one of the previous installs (so something somewhere is definitely left behind after uninstall, could be due to the previous install on D:?) . I also found the errors listed below in (error 2.) in the squeeze centre error logs in the WHS console tab. I love the WHS add-in so hope this helps. Gareth (error 1.) Thanks for looking at this. I have uninstalled via add/remove programs
by an RDP session, I still have the same problem. This is the entry in
the event viewer when I try and install 7.4-25077. I am installing as
administrator.
No service called squeezesvc is appearing in the list of services, can
you let me know what the registry entries for the service are, may be
there is something wrong in there? Its strange that an earlier version
of the WHS install worked. I did have an earlier version of none WHS
squeezecentre installed in D: rather than C: but that was removed prior
to the original WHS install which worked fine. May be there is something
left over from that install which is confusing the new install which did
not affect the previous WHS install (guessing)?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Windows Home Server 7.4 beta upgrade problem
Hi, I removed 7.4-24922 from my windows home server via the console (it was all working fine). When I tried to install 7.4-25035 or 7.4-25049 I get an error svcsqueeze failed to start. I uninstalled the previous versions first I have also tried rebooting. There was a standard windows 7.3 release installed on the D: drive previously (prior to WHS version releases) but I removed this previously and 7.4-24922 installed via the WHS console fine. The problem is just with the new versions. Is there an old entry hidden in the registry somewhere that is causing the problem? What should I look for?
