Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.7.2 is stuck

2011-12-16 Thread michael123

I have 4GB installed, Windows 7 Squeeze sit on the 60GB SSD and the
audio files are on Unix-based NAS

So far, I am quite happy with the recent builds, but I noticed this
freeze.
It did not happen, say, 4 months ago.

So, what is the next step since the logs are empty?

If I create a crash dump, will it help?

Windows 7 Embedded

It happens with any material, CD or high-resolution, did not notice
anything particular in terms of memory consumption, I will look into
next time

although last time it happened me with this:

actually, it happened also with previous 7.7.x

In the middle of album, Squeezecenter just goes dead, so I must
**kill** the server process and start it over again..

server.log is clean.

Thanks, Andy!
I have opened something like 20 bugs through last couple of years, and

This happens **frequently** when I press button... while
normally, it shall just go to standby. It never happens when I play the

Amen :)
I am running r32434 from May 19th where all my reported bugs got fixed
and it is actually quite stable...

Although I see some bugs in the navigation - lot of empty entries
(deleted? sometimes I get this navigating from search results..)

Anyway, I am very happy I got all my Transporter bugs fixed and an

I tried to implement good ol' workaround of mapping the network UNC
drive, and strangely - it did not work!
Scanning completed, I saw the progress of scanning art, but still the
images are broken - the big ones, the medium-size are seen (and have
been generated also with UNC)

sox can be built with or without some modules (there are some
conditionals there).

Actually, I see my sox (and I added few things like polyphase from from

I was talking about Web..
Check the search facility in J River Media Center, check Sooloos.

Squeeze is not intuitive and many people that are not techies like we
are, do not like it.

Also, Squeeze UI does not fit for smaller devices lap netbooks, ipads.
The 'Touch' skin is awful and outdated.

Of course, this gives lot of ground for plugins and 3rd party apps :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Can we get a 7.6 state of the union address?

2010-12-21 Thread michael123

Logitech is associated with mice and keyboards.
I have all my house with different kinds of these, and they are really
nice!!!
MX Revolution, DiNovo Edge, Mini, Nano, etc..

However some of my audiophile friends do not share that my passion for
Transporter I own (because of the above) and joking from time to
time..

Anyway, audiophiles are different niche and Logitech is a massmarket
and gadget company.. And it is not really into making software (except
for drivers), which is completely different discipline

Sonos are doing really good for custom installers market.. For
high-end, we have Sooloos, QSonix.. We have Olive, we have millions of
really good DACs.
We have PS Audio PWD with their iPhone/iPad applications..

I just see this continuing disaster happening with 7.6..
Jesus, that bug that I cannot connect to my NAS with \\server\share
cannot be fixed for 6 months (or more??)

So many small nasty bugs...
Squeeze UI is really awful and did not change for last 5 years. It was
good back then, but today?? Usability is very poor. Slow.

But I get used to it. :)

I am running it due to two important fixes by AndyG or Transporter
firmware (overvoltage + filter)

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Some bugs I reported

2010-10-14 Thread michael123

Seriously, I do not use Windows Control Panel.
It is absolutely useless thing.. Not clear why was it added at all.. It
does not fit the design of Squeezebox..

What about fixing some stupid bug anyway, ahh?

And NAS?
I almost every day forget to refresh my drive mapping to NAS (NAS is
sleeping and I awake it from PC when Squeeze is already up, so mapping
is disconnected), and what happens that during scanning, my music is
deleted. A very nice workaround, which does not work.. And of course, I
cannot run as a service..

I personally classify this a showstopper,
but I have no clue what happens inside Logitech these days..

and is it so difficult to put Release Notes?

Anybody here besides myself does not use NAS for storing files?

When you double-click on the SBS icon, it does not open URL with the
wrong port, did not happen to anyone else? I have it in 80% of the

I simply do not know what can I do..
I opened bugs.. provided some information that I could..

[SlimDevices: Beta] Kind of positive feedback

2010-08-27 Thread michael123

Hi

Apart from few bugs I reported here and on Bugzilla, I must confirm
that the performance in SQLite configuration in recent 7.6 betas is
much better than with MySQL in release package. This include browsing,
scanning, switching between playlists and tracks..

thanks for the great work!

There was nothing special in the scanner.log, although (I think) I
enabled Debug logging..

OS is there

I will add SQLite results and hardware to the bug report

2010-08-14 Thread michael123

I read this: (pressing on 'i' on html page)

Squeezebox Server supports SQLite and MySQL Server. SQLite is
recommended for embedded systems and those with less memory, and also
offers faster scanner performance. MySQL may offer better library
browsing performance and is recommended for faster systems with more
memory. Changing this setting requires a server restart.
