Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
This is the problem you are facing: no matter what tool you try to use, real SB could not play 'native' DSD, you should disable that choice, then use whatever you like to inform LMS what transcoding you like to apply.; 2018-07-02, 11:39 by marcoc1712 Dear all, I'm quite new in trying to get LMS streaming dsf from my squeezebox touch to my dac (topping E30). I've read a lot in this forum and it seems it doesn't work. The quote above is the latest I could find on the subject. Am I correct? Or did I miss any posts? Thanks for your reply. I was going through my plugins and noticed I have 'DSDPlayer (v1.0)' and 'PlayDSD (v0.5)' selected, do I need both as they both show up in the player settings for each player. I actually did the manual install of Ralphys armhf binaries and it worked on my Synology DS216Play which is ARMv7l codename Monaco (whereas the one from settings plugin did not). No guarantee, but it could be worth a try. You could also try using the C3PO plugin instead. Yes, there is, in my previous post, I sad that I have installed the latest LMS server on my NAS, i have also installed dsdplayer form the repo https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsupdate/files/DSDplayer_x86_64/repo_sf.xml , (now, version 1.02) via enable add-on in the LMS settings page. Still I can only choose between "Native" or "Disabled in Advanced/File Tipes. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Forgive my ignorance. I found my answer earlier in the thread, where Ralphy explained the need to install the Raspberry Pi binaries. I installed DSDPlayer armhf-linux on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ running PiCorePlayer. Now I get proper conversion option for DSDPlayer on players that do not support DSD. ralphy wrote: > There are dsdplay armv6hf and armv5el binaries in the Utility folder on > my lmsclients site, click Squeezebox client builds in my sig. > > After installing the DSDPlayer plugin. > > You need to create an armhf-linux folder under the plugins DSDPlayer/Bin > folder > > Then copy the files from the tar file into DSDPlayer/Bin/armhf-linux > > If the shared dsdplay binary doesn't run due to missing libraries, > delete it and rename dsdplay-static to dsdplay > > For armv5el use arm-linux for the folder name > > Restart LMS and you should be able to setup DSDPlayer from the player > settings page in the webgui. > 20155 Transporter -> Classe' CP-47.5 -> Classe' CA-201 -> Martin Logan SL3 Celeritas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18887 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101641 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
I have the same problem as below. PiCorePlayer 4.1.0 is installed and DSDPlayer plugin v1.0 is installed in LMS 7.9.2 - 1543258616. Squeezelite is turned off on the Raspberry Pi 3B+ that is used as an LMS server. I can stream native DSD to a Squeezelite player that is attached to a USB DAC that supports it. I cannot transcode DSD to any other players. Like hellrider77, transcoding options are greyed out for DSF -> FLAC or DFF -> FLAC under File Types. In the player menu, I get "DSDPlayer will transcode DSD to PCM for this player. Use the settings below to tune resampling parameters," but there are no options displayed. Is this a Linux problem? It works just fine on my Windows 10 PC if I run the server there. hellrider77 wrote: > Hello and nice to meet you. > This is my first post here as I am trying to get my Yamaha CD-S3000 to > play DSD via piCorePlayer. > > My environment looks like this: > > LMS on Synology DS214: > > > Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 0011.1527861596 @ Fri Jun 1 > 16:21:00 CEST 2018 > Hostname: DiskStation > Operating system: Synology DiskStation - EN - utf8 > Platform Architecture: armle-linux > Perl Version: 5.24.0 - armle-linux > Audio::Scan: 0.95 > IO::Socket::SSL: 2.037 > Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1) > > > pCP running on Raspberry Pi 2B+: > > piCorePlayer | piCorePlayer v4.1.0 | linux 4.14.81-pcpCore_v7 | piCore > v9.2pCP | Squeezelite v1.9.0-1121-pCP | > > USB DAC: Yamaha CD-S3000, 24/192 max PCM, Native DSD 128 max > The problem is that in order for Yamaha to work in Windows with DSD, it > requires an Steinberg ASIO driver. > The device does not accept DSD via DoP, only native. > > > The only way I got it to work correctly in pCP was to leave blank the > output setting, all devices listed did not work or worked in 48Khz > resolution > > I have installed DSDPlayer (now version 1.02) , in LMS under player -> > DSDPlayer i get "This player supports native playback of DSD files. > DSD-over-PCM should be configured on the player configuration > interface." > > Under File Types I only get: > > DFF DFF Native or Disabled > FLAC Greyed out - Disabled > > DSF DSF Native or Disabled > FLAC Greyed out - Disabled > > I tried all recommendations on Soundcheck's blog: > "soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/2018/01/raspberry-pi-audio-engine-part-6-dsd" > (cannot post links as this is my first post) > > DSD does not play at all, with any of the settings recommended above. So it seems that the quirks.c file has been updated a couple of times, the latest June of 2018. The first time they added several mytek devices, but then made it more generic. So... wonder when I'll see this in my Ubuntu? I'm at 16 LTS, maybe I should upgrade? Hi Marcoc1712, thanks for the prompt reply. I tried two versions of LMS: - LMS 7.9.1-166 on a x86 Synology NAS - LMS 7.9.1-1522249619 on Windows 8 In both servers the DSF file type config is the same. This is an excerpt from Settings -> Advanced -> File Types Code: File FormatStream FormatDecoder DSFDSF Native I do not have ssh access to the sMS-200ultra, so I cannot run the squeezelite -? command. All I can see in the sMS-200ultra UI is that the squeezelite version is 1.8.7. SOTM claims that Native DSD mode is supported. The error I posted in the previous post (Slim::Player::Song::open (409) Error: Couldn't create command line for dsf playback for ...) shows up in the LMS error log so I thought the problem is not with squeezelite but I could be wrong. I just wanted to verify everything is OK with my LMS setup before engaging with SOTM... Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Hi All, can someone help me out with DSD? I have an album added (dsf) in LMS 7.9.1. I have setup DSDPlayer to use Enable DSD-over-PCM. I have set the volume level at fixed 100%. The music plays on my Benchmark DAC2HGC (connected via spdif, edo enabled). But I think that the files are converted to PCM as the front lights of the DAC show 24bit, 4x 44khz. For DSD both the 2x and 4x lights should be on. Am I doing anything wrong? Any help appreciated! Hi Guys, I'm a bit lost since I reinstalled my LMS server yesterday, DSD files don't work anymore. I did reinstall the DSDPlayer plugin and configure it for my player (picoreplayer) I had done a reinstall recently also, still with the Synology package, and didn't have any issues LMS is running on a Synology 415+ What's the latest on getting that to work? Is the DSDPlayer in the plugin list the correct one or should I look for an alternate repo where another plugin is available? That was the case in the past with pinkdot's repo... I find so many old threads about this I'm confused as per what to do now! Indeed there is the meta data problem with dff files. I contacted SOtM engineer and we reintalled the logitech media server. Then dsf files are working properly while dff files not. I used foobar to delete previous tag information I added in the dff. Still couldn't work. So I used dff2dsf developed by signalyst.com. Right now, all the dsd files are fine. It claims that dff2dsf only adds header info without converting to PCM. Is it really the case? Thank you very much for your suggestions and help. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
I've had this dsd playback issue for 3 days now and really need help from you guys. Background: I am using sotm sms 200 with LMS 7.9 installed. The player supports native dsd and connected to DDC singxer f-1 and spdif to chord hugo. DDC also supports native dsd without problem. All the music files are stored on usb and connected to sms 200 usb dock. Settings: a. Plugin: DSDplayer installed. b. File Type Setting:DFF, DST Native. c. Volume Control: Output level is fixed at 100%. Crossfade: None. d. DSD Player tab: This player supports native playback of dsd files. DSD-over-PCM should be configured on the player configuration interface. e. I chose sms 200 to output native dsd in sotm interface. Symptom: a. dsd files can be played for 10-30 s without any sounds, then will stop playing and skip to another song b. All other files 16/24bit, 44/96/192k can be played without any problem. c. Log shows: Decoder does not support file format, code 0 Others: All dsd files can be played on my win 8 computer with foobar. Really want dsd files to be played on sms 200. Any suggestions are welcome. Appreciated for ur help. Nevertheless, finally, after I downloaded the sources for libmad library and compiled it, I could successfully compile sox itself, on my ARMv7 NAS (Synology DS2016play), as you suggested. :) My self-compiled sox is working fine now for playing FLAC or MP3, but yet it doesn't transcode any of my DSD files. I'm using C-3PO to control the playback. I've had results varying with settings, but all I get is seeing the play time progressing or hearing only noise. This is what ldd says: Code: root@DiskStation:/opt/bin# ldd sox libsox.so.3 => /opt/lib/libsox.so.3 (0x76ddb000) libpng16.so.16 => /opt/lib/libpng16.so.16 (0x76da3000) libz.so.1 => /opt/lib/libz.so.1 (0x76d81000) libFLAC.so.8 => /opt/lib/libFLAC.so.8 (0x76d1a000) libmad.so.0 => /opt/lib/libmad.so.0 (0x76cf5000) libmp3lame.so.0 => /opt/lib/libmp3lame.so.0 (0x76c77000) libm.so.6 => /opt/lib/libm.so.6 (0x76bc3000) libssp.so.0 => /opt/lib/libssp.so.0 (0x76bb1000) libgcc_s.so.1 => /opt/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x76b96000) libc.so.6 => /opt/lib/libc.so.6 (0x76a5a000) /opt/lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0x76ed9000) This is what C-3PO tells me for a .dsf file to be transferred to FLAC: Trasformed by C-3PO in: "/opt/bin/sox" -q -t dsf "/volume1/music/HOME/DSD/CHANNELCLASSICS/11/stereo/19503/04_19503_2ch.dsf" -t flac -C 5 -b 24 --buffer 8192 - lowpass -1 22000 gain -h rate -m -I -b 90.7 -f 44100 When I execute sox with these parameters in SSH, I only get weird characters instead of meaningful error message. I will head over to Audiodigitale.eu and try to find out more on the configuration. Do you haven an idea what could be the cause? How could I activate the Log file? Ge Ba's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101641 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

You better convert DSD to PCM (or flac) server side and let the player just receive (and convert to pcm if flac) then play to your DAC. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
I have LMS 7.9.0 installed on a QNAP 469L NAS with DSDPlayer plugin enabled. The player is a SOTM SMS-100 running squeezelite. The SMS-100 itself supports DSD throughput at its USB out, but my DAC doesn't. Therefore, I would like it to be ultimately transcoding to, say, 176kHz. On the LMS settings' "Player" tab, it says, "This player supports native playback of DSD files. DSD-over-PCM should be configured on the player configuration interface" If I play a DSF file, it appears to be playing, but as expected, there is no sound coming out of the system because the DAC doesn't support DSD. If I set the file type preference of DSF to DSF: disabled (native originally), FLAC: dsdPlay, it would fail to even start track, and the SSOTS server log says, "sh: /opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/DSDPlayer/Bin/i386-linux/dsdplay: No such file or directory". I looked into the NAS's directory and see that there is /opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/DSDPlayer/Bin/dsdplay but not one with dsdplay as a subdirectory of i386-linux. Out of curiosity, I tried creating a i386-linux folder and copied the dsdplay folder into it. After restarting server, the file type setting of DSF would only have the DSF native/disabled setting and the flac setting would be greyed out. So, this is probably not the cure. My question is, should what I intend to do (transcoding dsf to flac) be an available option? Is my setting at fault, or is there something else I should look into (The QNAP firmwares this year broke support for LMS, and I had to made some minor mods to make it run as usual. So, I don't know if the DSDplayer plugin support is screwed up by the firmware upgrade as well) Thanks. eduardoo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=25850 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101641 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Well I seem to h ave accidentally solved the issues I was having. It had been my intention to upgrade my DAC, so I purchased a SMSL M8A. When I connected it, my attempts to play DSD, both natively and via DoP, met with failure but the nature of the failure was the clue. The DAC kept switching between PCM and DSD and operating in 'bursts'. So Switching from wireless to a wired connection fixed it completely. All is now working as it should. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Hi Please forgive a very n00b question. I am trying out DSD on LMS 7.9 and SB Touch with an external DacMagic DAC (quite elderly and pre-DSD). I am able to get my DSF files playing without a problem (EDO, USB) but I don't understand what is happening 'under the covers'. The state of the 'Enable DSD-over PCM' option makes no difference to the sound output and the DAC shows 44.1 sample rate at all times. Is this correct? Will a great deal of resolution not be lost at this low sample rate? If you can aid my understanding or point me to a learning resource, I would be very grateful. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Yes LMS doe not handle multichannel . And the Touch does not have hdmi , i know that spdiff and toslink only Handles ac3 or dts coded multichannel not discrete multichannel, hdmi does that . Don't know if any multichannel USB soundcard could be used ( in theory ). Squeezplay ( the native player in Touch ) and Squeezelite is also 2 channel . So LMS is 2 channel probaly not trivial to fix , A new multichannel software player for LMS must be developed that's not trivial either ? Possibly for use on a raspberry pi who has hdmi . Original squeezebox hardware is probably never going to work . If it where easy someone would have done it already. Well, after much scratching of head and finding out which SACDs were 2 channel only, I see that LMS + DSDplay ignore or otherwise don't scan non 2.0 DSF files, so the above question about DoP is not important. This is a very long thread and while I have scanned it I may missed the answer, sorry. I now have SACD rip capabilities (yay) and want to see if it's feasible to play multichannel .dsf files via my Touch into my Denon amp. For this I think I need DoP, but it's not an option in my LMS settings (DSDPlay just says "DSDPlayer will transcode DSD to PCM for this player. Use the settings below to tune resampling parameters.") Is this not possible on SPDI/F linked players or just the normal / real Squeezeboxes? Ta. DFF does not support tags (or better, as is per was, you could attach some Idv3 tag someway, but is obscure and not commonly supported), cue files maybe could supports dff, I don't know, I should try... DFF (native) playback is supported in LMS, DOP or converted to PCM via DSDPLAY or Squeezelite is not so clear to me, but i suppose is not (I'll have a try shortly). Reason why I'm not so interested in DFF or others is that I'm going to use SOX server side to transcode to dsf or pcm from any format, eventually resampling, this way, for instance, dff is converted on the fly to dsf (maybe it could be better the inverse, but too much work to do on squeezelite). DSD (dsf or dff) id always converted to DOP or PCM in squeezelite, depending on DAC capabilities and settings, there is no 'native' suport even in windows with ASIO. Daphile has some pathces that allows you to output DSD over PCM in Linux, but using non DOP format, more like as ASIO does in windows (https://github.com/lintweaker/xmos-native-dsd). I'm testing those patches over "standard" squeezelite to be used with LMS, then I'll try to allow 'native' palyback with AISO drivers at least in Windows. The benefit of 'natives' formats over PCM is reduced size (and band) by at least 33% (dop is 8 bit marker 16 bit data, 'natives' are no marker and up to 32 bit data). Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
So I wonder if it is possible to update LMS for "Sparc" compilation to version including Audio::Scan 0.95. As somebody already mentioned the Sparc based ReadyNAS just isn't up to the task of running LMS any more. We have hacks in the code just to make it run acceptable. But don't expect it to do any advanced stuff like transcoding. You might be better off getting a Raspberry Pi do run LMS (leaving the music files themselves on the NAS). -- Michael ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Hi Everyone, I have a problem and I'm not sure where it is. :) I am running the Xubuntu 16.04 LTS repo Squeezelite hooked up to a Mytek Brooklyn. It usually works pretty well, although I occasionally have to restart Squeezelite since I sometimes use the PC for TV/Netflix, etc. and want to use the Brooklyn to listen. Anyway, normal DSD files (2.8 MHz) play as expected. I recently was gifted (by the licence owner!) a quad rate album. 11 Mhz DSD. Squeezelite says the DAC can't accept it and converts to 384k PCM. There's not much to report in the log file except that it says the DAC reports it won't support the bit rate: [16:46:56.311900] dsd_decode:527 setting track_start [16:46:56.311900] dsd_decode:533 DOP sample rate too high for device - converting to PCM [16:46:56.311906] dsd_decode:543 DSD to PCM output I tried updating the log settings to DEBUG but didn't get any more information. My config file is pretty basic, no hard coded sample rates. Normally there is no conversion. It plays what i send it. Is this by any chance a known SL issue, or do you think I need to follow up with Mytek?? Thanks for any advice! jacobacci wrote: > Can anyone give me a hint, how to configure the RP2 / DAC+ / LMS combo > to play DSD files (converting them to PCM on the fly). Try adding the Squeezelite parameter "-e dsd". That tells LMS the player won't accept DSD and will in turn activate transcoding to PCM. I'm not sure what generation my Pi is (they accumulate like crazy and I can't keep them straight!) but I've found that in my setup it will usually happily transcode to send to another player but doesn't have enough power to transcode while also being the player. The one time I tried to transcode for itself the music kept cutting out. atrocity's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16009 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101641 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
Hi all I have successfully streamed DSD files from my NAS to several DSD capable DACs, so the setup of LMS on my NAS seems to be ok. I am now trying to get my Raspberry Pi2 with Hifiberry DAC+ to work with DSD files, hoping to convert them to PCM in LMS on the NAS. However, for the Raspberry Pi2, I do not get the usual DoP yes / no checkbox in the DSDPlayer configuration box, but a message "This player supports native playback of DSD files. DSD-over-PCM should be configured on the player configuration interface." 21344 Can anyone give me a hint, how to configure the RP2 / DAC+ / LMS combo to play DSD files (converting them to PCM on the fly). To update: I tried playing one of the test files (a DSD64 DSF file), from my Android phone, using HibyMusic. The file played correctly, over USB, using Native, DoP and PCM modes. Only the very faintest interruption was heard when switching modes on-the-fly. Since the last post, I have also tried introducing a USB 2.0 hub between the touch and the DAC. This makes no difference. I have managed to get hold of the 2.6.26 kernel source, including Triodes patches (not sure which ones), so can rebuild the kernel with some tweaks if that might help. BR. If it turns out that I need to backport more recent version of the snd_usb module on my touch, does anyone know where I can find a kernel config and possible patches for the 2.6.26 kernel that I have installed (I'm currently using Triode's EDO and USB kernels, which does complicate matters as I don't think is config and patches are available). As the player itself chews through the files and "plays" them (with no sound except something that sounds like bird-chatter) from the dac, I suspect that the problem is with the linux support for the chip. I see that some changes have been made to the snd_usb module since Linux 2.6.22 / 2.6.26, so was wondering if there's any way to rebuild the module with some backported patches and load it on the touch. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD
I bought a 'S.M.S.L Sanskrit Pro' (http://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/info/hi-res-guide/s-m-s-l-sanskrit-pro-up-to-24-bit177669) and have it connected over USB. 192KHz flac files play fine. DSD I haven't managed to make work at all yet. The DAC is based on the CMEDIA CM6632A chip, which should handle DSD up to 5.6MHz. I have tried both DFF DFF disabled FLAC dsdplay DSF DSF disabled FLAC dsdplay as well as DFF DFF native FLAC dsdplay DSF DSF native FLAC dsdplay Both of which "play" the file, but no sound is produced. At the player settings page, I have tried both checking and unchecking DSD over PCM and setting and removing: Soxr Quality: High quality Soxr Filter: Linear Phase Soxr Steep Filter: Soxr Steep Filter None of which seems to make any difference. Disabling DFF/DSF: Flac on the file types causes the file not to play at all. I have Player volume fixed at 100% and am using EDO (with the standard EDO kernel) and audio output set to USB Sanskrit pro. I have tried the three available USB DAC kernels (EDO Release kernel and TEST kernels #11 and #12), none of which make much difference. Does anyone know of a different kernel or patch that would allow DSD to work into the CMEDIA CM6632A ? Many thanks. --Marius-- Learnincurve's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64807 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101641 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Hi BR, Edo on the SBT gives 24/192 max on both spdif outputs. Looking at the spec for your receiver I can see no USB input which would be needed for DSD in direct form. One of the cheapest DSD dacs that work with the SBT usb output is 'this ' (http://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/nano-idsd/) There are lots more if you google.
