The problem is that Real Audiophiles are prepared to give up all that
convenience if they believe it will buy them even a tiny improvement in
sound quality - many are actually proud of it. Unfortunately a lot of
audiophile folklore and voodoo is not actually based on facts, so
usually there is no actual improvement.

Just some of the problems solved by flac files is good error correction
and well supported tags .

With good tags you can ditch the folder browse mode .

The benefit is that file name and tag can be different . So you can use
OS friendly file names and tag the files correctly with all the weird
accents and punctuation you want without conflict .

wav do have some tag support with some tagging software , but it's not
that well supported .

Wow - that was a lot of audiophile folklore/superstition/phraseology
compressed into one single, short message! :)

And no, DACs don't uncompress FLAC. And no, the processing on the player
side need not be higher, too. All myths.
Plus, you could just decode on the server if it were true.

Another Audiophoolish Myth. and you really "detect" improved Sound
Quality?
I only detect improved Sound Quality from WAV over FLAC when i am

There is no improved sound quality with WAV compared to FLAC. Quite to
the contrary there are a number of scenarios where WAV causes trouble.
And in the default configuration LMS will encode it as FLAC anyway for
streaming

As mentioned above, this could be solved by using FLAC files and putting
names and titles into the tags.

How ever you came to this conclusion you should reconsider/evaluate this
again. There should be no real difference.

And one more thing: unless you have _very_ good reason to use WAV and
BMF, I'd suggest you convert your files to flac and properly tag them.
Or at the very least make sure they all have a title tag. You're
currently using about the worst combination possible in LMS to access
your music (incomplete tags, WAV, BMF).

Ok. Done.

Ok, this one indeed comes with a question mark at the end:

3-08 Is It True?.wav

What would you see? Do you have other examples which would have
something else in the filename, but which would show as a question mark?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Punctuation Display Problem

2016-01-06 Thread Michael Herger

I've uploaded one song with a question mark at the end.

That file doesn't even come with a title. Here's all the tags I'm seeing:

ALBUM ARTIST: Eagles
APIC: [ image/jpeg, 3, Picture, 564513, 224201117 ]
IART: Eagles
ICRD: 2013
IGNR: Pop
IPRD: On the Border
IPRT: 8
TALB: On the Border
TCON: Pop
TDRC: 2013
TOOL NAME: HDtracks Downloader
TPE1: Eagles
TRCK: 8

Therefore the title most likely is guessed from the file name.
Unfortunately that filename probably got modified by Dropbox in the
upload process. It does indeed come with a dash at the end "TXX WXXX -
3-08 Is It True-.wav". This dash _could_ be something else which got
replaced.

Can you zip the file and upload the archived version?

Redhat should use fstab like debian - so cat /etc/mtab should help go

Sonic Orbiter and PK90USB are small Linux based music servers. MPaD is
the app used to control the PK90USB. I use iPeng to control the
