[Bf-committers] Reminder: End of BCon3 today

2011-12-04 Thread Thomas Dinges
Hi,
just a quick reminder, the end of BCon3 is scheduled for today, we will
check at the Developer meeting though.

So if you still have stuff (features, enhancements etc) to commit,
better do it now now rather than later. :)

We want to get a Release candidate out by tomorrow.
Thanks.

Best Regards,
Thomas

Re: [Bf-committers] Proposal to improve the File Selector Box for import/export and open/save

2011-12-04 Thread Gaia Clary
Hi.

I created another example where i believe that my proposal
makes sense:

 http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=21934

I have used a screen width of 840 which i believe is an extreme case
and almost nobody will ever use such a narrow screen. But even
there it appears to me like very usable and not a waste of space
compared to what we have today:

 http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=21935

If the right sidebar in my proposal really gets in the way it always
can be hidden. What i dislike in my proposal is the location of the
Export Obj button. Any ideas ?

If i get any positive feedback, then i will dig deeper into this and if i
could get some initial help where to start changing the source code
i will try to make a patch for this request :)

cheers,
Gaia

 Hi.

I found it is very common to overlook the Properties section during
 export or import
or even when loading/saving another blend file. The properties settings
 are often burried
somewhere outside of the screen on the lower left side of the file
 selection window.

I propose to move the special properties from bottom left to top right
 as shown
for the Collada export in this fake image:

   http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=21892

 In detail i propse:

 - add Properties and tool shelf to the export selection menu
 - put the export properties into the properties section
 - put all the rest into the tool shelf
 - display the tool shelf on the left (similar to the 3D View)
 - display the properties on the right (similar to the 3D view)

 Main Reasons for the proposal:

1.) The action button and the related properties would be side by side
instead of in opposite corners of the screen (as it is now)
2.) The screen area would be better utilised (more info on less space)
3.) The gui would become more consistent (properties+toolshelf as in 3D
 View)

Where would i have to start if i wanted to add a patch to my proposal ?
Is there any entry point or documentation hint available for how the Gui
 is programmed ?

 Cheers,
 Gaia

[Bf-committers] Blender developer IRC meeting minutes, 4 december 2011

2011-12-04 Thread Ton Roosendaal
Hi all,

Here's a summary of todays topics:

1) Blender 2.61 release progress

- Translation (.po) files: will be added to svn tomorrow by Bastien
Montagne.
Meeting agrees that .po files should be added before we enter BCon4
(official release candidate builds).

- Motion tracker: Keir Meirle has updated solvers, using a hybrid of
previous methods. Camera tracking is working great.

- Motion tracker: Sergey Sharybin was trying to finish object tracking
as well, but couldn't finish it today yet.

- Meeting then spent a long time on pros and cons of having last
minute cool features - like object tracking. Basically the module
owner (Sergey) could decide it's good enough to add today or tomorrow.
But if it needs more time (week or more) to mature, it's better to
wait. Sergey thinks he'll wait for 2.62 with it... but we don't
exclude a miracle. :)

- As planned, we move to BCon4 tomorrow: all work for release has been
wrapped up, we make release candidates and focus on essential bug
fixes only.

- Release Candidate build call: this tuesday evening (EU time).

- NOTE!! Files saved with svn trunk Blender, between Nov 29 and Dec 4,
have a delta scaling issue, which makes objects appear zero scaled.
Best solution then is to run this 1 liner in the python terminal:

 for ob in bpy.data.objects: ob.delta_scale = (1,) * 3

- To get ready for a fabulous release, we do a call for demos! We can
use excellent files to show all the new features in 2.61. Mail links
to files to this list?

- Thomas Dinges added a cool Cycles test material blend file in svn:
http://temp.dingto.org/bmps_glass_2500.png
https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-blender/trunk/lib/tests/rendering/cycles/

2) Other projects

- Antonis Ryakiotakis (Psy-Fi) worked on improved selection code, it
appears ATI cards keep badly supporting OpenGL's standard (but
ancient) glSelect() function.

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?238426-why-is-gl_select-still-used-to-select-objects-in-Blender/page2
http://www.pasteall.org/26958/diff

More tests will be needed; especially if ATI/AMD really didn't fix
this in last year...

- Campbell Barton reminds everyone about the BMesh compatibility
issue: is it needed to save out in new .blend files Meshes that will
read in old binaries still? Ton suggests to make decision next week,
after examining issue closer.

I like having it on both sides. I find that even on my big 2 monitor
system my eyes don't bother to see the lower left or off the screen on
the bottom left. Also having it on the right like that makes the whole
screen feel more balanced to me. I also work on a small system with
1024*786 (?) and I don't see a problem with screen space in this case.

[Bf-committers] split cycles cuda kernels from BF_NUMJOBS

2011-12-04 Thread Yousef Hurfoush

hi

as currently added support cuda binaries for scons, specifying BF_NUMJOBS=4
will start 4 cuda kernels compile processes and that consumes more than 4GB RAM
to do
so i think there should be a separate build option for these.
i use scons and msvcsp1 on windows 7 x64
i5 4 cores, 4GB DDR3
