I've always had the same impression: most of us use LaTeX, although I
now know of at least four on this list who don't.

Well, then I will be #5 on your list. To me, BD is a great
application to administrate and browse my references. But when it
comes to writing of manuscripts, which I need to share with a couple
of co-authors, I have to use widely accepted commercial software.
Unfortunately LaTex is not very popular among my colleagues and
partners. Thus, any feature providing integration of BD and Word-
editors would be highly appreciated.

andreas

Some people avoid BD because of the BibTeX/LaTeX association, but I
think it's useful as a general purpose reference manager because of
the searching/ranking/grouping/filing features, and we shouldn't
forget that. I think the UI is better than most of the other tools as
well.

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Using autofile with two machines

2007-09-12 Thread Andreas Reinecke
Well, you got me. I was not aware that on one of the three computers
I work with preference settings (see below) were different from the
others, which lead to my false statement.
sorry

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Using autofile with two machines

2007-09-12 Thread Andreas Reinecke
Hi Michael,
I work on different machines with specific account names as you do.
However, I do not encounter your problem.
My autofile preference setting are:

checkbox "papers folder location" tagged, with an entry into the
neighbouring field like "~/BIOSAFE/Literatur" which in my case is the
path generated when you select it via the "choose" button. The ~
obviously refers to your local user folder irrespective of the
account's name.

[Bibdesk-users] Web of science SCI search

2007-08-16 Thread Andreas Reinecke

Dear list members,

during a recent search for publications from a specific author using
the built-in Web of science SCI search bookmark I got unexpected few
results. Going more into detail, I found that using keywords as well
as author names gives a significantly different number of hits when
entered into the BibDesk web of science SCI search field or directly
into the appropriate field of the Web of Science general search page
("topic" or "author").
Example: "melolontha" (genus name of a scarab beetle) gives 100 hits
with BibDesk, but 173 hits when entered into the "topic" line of the
Web of Science main search page.
Has anybody similar experiences? Any ideas how to be sure that you
really get all the information you want to look at?

Many thanks to the developers for providing the community with such a
great tool as BisDesk is!

andreas
