When I select an item in my .bib files nothing shows in the preview window. TeX
preview works but not bibdesk’s own preview.

[Bibdesk-users] Keywords borked in 1.9.1 (for large .bib files)?

2024-02-23 Thread Trevor Jenkins
Since the 1.9.1 update selecting keywords have stopped working for some .bib
files.

I have a several different .bib files with 300+ publications each with keywords
associated with them. For some there is only one keyword but others have four
or more. However when I select keywords in BibDesk only a few, typically one,
of the publications are displayed. There are no search criteria defined.

Keywords for smaller .bib files (around 60 publications) when selected display
the correct number of publications.

The import into BibDesk was successful but the TeX Preview breaks with various

Should have included some technical details.

First the errant system

MacBookPro with M1 processor running macOS 11.5 BigSur. Although the problem
predated the update to 11.5 yesterday.

MacTex 2021 downloaded and installed Tuesday 13 July 2021

BibDesk 1.8.3 (updated the version installed by MacTex)

The .bib file is on my Dropbox repository, which BibDesk opens without comment.

Second the functioning system.

Mac mini with Intel processor running macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra

MacTex 2020

BibDesk 1.8.2

The .bib file is local on the Mac mini. This is the source for the identical
copy over on Dropbox

> Can you just run tex yourself?

Yes. Tex (specifically pidflatex) runs from the command line. Kicks off at
least this bitches about the ^D.

> What file is null, what precisely does it say?

Here is the first log file (the one in which the article class cannot be found).

[Bibdesk-users] Made some dumb mistake

2021-07-24 Thread Trevor Jenkins
Installed BibDesk (and MacTex) onto a new MacBookPro with an M1 processor.
Copied over a .bib file from my desktop Mac (Mac mini of ancient vintage). Open
the old bib file on the MacBookPro, select an entry, then click TeX Preview.
Get the dreaded red error message in the preview window. I checked the log
display. First time the error said the TeX executable could not find the
article class! For a reason I cannot now remember I changed the template to say
a4paper instead of the letter. Still get the red message in the preview window
but now the log entries are different. Complains about null files in var/folder
directories.

Clearly I have done something really stupid but I cannot for the life of me
think what it is. Freely admit to being stupid and an idiot. Anyone venture an
answer as to what I have done wrong please.

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Amazon equivalent of Google Scholar Feature

2021-05-09 Thread Trevor Jenkins
Thanks. That works. Bit kludgey but it’s okay. Won’t be replacing BibDesk
anytime soon with Zotero; too many bizarre things in Zotero.

Tried Better BibTex too; because I added several of my Amazon targets to Zotero
before installing the zot2Bib plugin. Won’t be using that either as its export
to BibTeX format is pants. zot2Bib does a better job of splitting up Zotero
entries.

[Bibdesk-users] Amazon equivalent of Google Scholar Feature

2021-05-08 Thread Trevor Jenkins
Is there an Amazon equivalent of the Google Scholar web site feature which
allows a user to import references into BibDesk? I have a number of pass orders
and wishlisted books on Amazon (both .com and .co.uk) that I want to add to a
.bib file but I baulk at the thought of going that by hand as over the years I
have purchased hundreds of books from them — naughty me I admit.

I can search Amazon{.com|.co.uk} with BibDesk but can find no equivalent to
Google Scholar’s “Import BibTex” or any other mechanism to import my past
purchases.

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Can't resize window width after maximise

2021-05-03 Thread Trevor Jenkins
Thanks. I will be changing the preference setting for double click to something
less intrusive. My MagicMouse appears to do weird things when the batteries are
at 50% to 75% preventing maximise window would be useful as I never want that
to happen.

There is something very odd going on with BibDesk windows. If I create a new
bibliography I cannot change the width! Mouse cursor on the left-hand edge
displays as <- and not as <-> similarly on the right-hend edge it displays as
-> and not <->. BibDesk is the ONLY program on my Mac that exhibits this
behaviour.

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Can't resize window width after maximise

2021-05-01 Thread Trevor Jenkins
I intended to single click on the window title to bring it to the front (it was
partially occluded by a browser window). It came to the front but erratic
behaviour from the mouse was interpreted as a double click and therefore a
request to maximise the window. When this happens with other programs a
deliberate double click on the window title restores BOTH height and width;
this is standard window behaviour. However, the double click on the bibdesk
window only restored the height. And no amount of mouse dragage whether window
edge or corner changes the window width; this not standard window behaviour.

[Bibdesk-users] Can't resize window width after maximise

2021-05-01 Thread Trevor Jenkins
Erratic mouse behaviour on window title interpreted as request to maximise the
window. Double clicking on title returned the window to its original height but
the width remains at full screen. Any attempt to resize the window width does
not work. Whether I try using the mouse on either the left or right side is
ineffective as is trying to resize from a corner. Original size was my
preferred setting; I want that back. How?
