Do you mean that when it sends out queries, it should always send them
as recursive queries?

named sends recursive queries when it's following a forwarders setting,
it sends non-recursive queries when it's following delegations. I don't
think there's any way to change either of these. NS records are
supposed to point to authoritative servers, so there's no reason to send
these as recursive (many, if not most, authoritative servers have
recursion disabled, so sending them recursive queries is pointless).

Clarifications below:

Here is one context:
What if I delegate a zone to a nameserver which is configured as a
cache-only?

thanks

RE: Any options in named.conf to force recursion?

2009-01-12 Thread Todd Snyder
If you don't host any zones on the server, then it would always recurse, no?

The server will always answer for zones it's authoritative for, as far as my
understanding.

You might need to explain more about your confguration/desired outcome than you
currently have.

Todd.

I know that by default recursion is yes (recursion yes; ). I would like to know
if it is possible to enforce recursion for all the DNS queries going out of the
host on which the named is configured.

Thanks

RE: Any options in named.conf to force recursion?

2009-01-12 Thread Jair Guerra

Guys,
I am trying to upgrade BIND 9.2.3 to 9.5.1-P1.
Does anyone have a matrix on how to go about doing it?

I need to do this ASAP so as to prevent/aid in DNS cache poisoning.

Please point me in the right direction or give me advise as to how to proceed.
