[Ontbirds] Great egrets - Andrew Hayden Park Ottawa

2012-06-18 Thread Netscape
There were 4 Great Egrets fishing along shore of the Ottawa River at the park
Sunday morning.

The birds were in full breeding plumage which was very evident whenever they
stopped to preen.

Subject: American White Pelican near Sky Lake on the Bruce P.

Hello,

I'm not sure if the O.F.O. members field trip to the Bruce Peninsula
this weekend was able to see this bird, but it was soaring high over Red Bay
Road just west of Sky Lake on Friday June 15th.

The bird looked to be in high breeding plumage, with the keel on the
upper bill very much in evidence.

My apologies for the late report, but this is my first chance to post.

 Cheers..T.

[Ontbirds] Least Bittern - White River, Ontario

2012-06-18 Thread McIlwrick, Ken
Hi Folks,

Tonight while checking out the sewage lagoons in White River, Ontario, I had a
Least Bittern regularly calling for the entire 45 minutes I was there (7:15pm
to 8:00pm). It was situated in the cattail marsh (about 4 acres in size) that
is south of the south-west lagoon (you can see it on Google Maps). I did not
see the bird but will try again tomorrow. Many ducks in the lagoons...but
nothing unusual.

Did come across a group of YOY Evening Grosbeak!

White River is located 3.75 hours north of Sault Ste. Marie, On. The lagoons
are located south-east of the town of White River off of a gravel access trail
called Lagoon Rd. that connects up to Hwy 17.
