[Ontbirds] Snowy owl, Oakville on the QEW

2016-02-07 Thread Richard Sigesmund
Noticed a snowy owl flying onto a street lamp on the south side of the QEW.
It was in a parking lot (of what, I don't know) a few hundred meters west
of exit 111. If you need a landmark, the Ford factory's an exit or so east
of exit 111. I observed it while driving.

[Ontbirds] 2 'Bewick's' Tundra Swans at Shrewsbury, SW Ontario

2016-02-07 Thread Andrew Keaveney
So I found the second apparent Bewick's Swan which appears to be a leucistic
individual. So bizarre.

See eBird checklists for photos. Unfortunately the typical looking Bewick's was
at a further distance and not cooperating very well for great photos.

http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S27365425

Thanks to Reuven Martin, Blake Mann and John Lamey for finding and refinding
these very cool birds.

Directions: Shrewsbury is on the shore of Rondeau Bay between Erieau and
Rondeau. See earlier posts for details as well.

Fantastic views, right on the grass beside the parking lot for Storybook
Gardens.  This is a continuing bird seen over the last few weeks.  Hanging with
the Canada Geese, seems to move to the river when frightened by dogs passing by.

[Ontbirds] Bewick's Swan still present

2016-02-07 Thread Jim Burk
The bird is still present at the same place where Andrew posted. Lots of swans
to look through.

I was a little sceptical after yesterday's ordeal but not anymore.

[Ontbirds] Two Ross's Geese, Leslie Street Spit

2016-02-07 Thread Steven Rowe
My wife Wendy Dey and I observed two Ross's Geese flying in from the north
and circling over Cell 3 (the southernmost large impoundment on the east
side) at the Leslie Street Spit at about 12.25 today. Identification was
confirmed by photographs, to be submitted to OFO for the website.

[Ontbirds] Ross's Goose Harrow Sewage Lagoons

2016-02-07 Thread Jeremy Hatt
I currently have a single Ross's Goose at the Harrow Sewage Lagoons. It's on
the divider between the two southern cells resting w/ a group of Canada Geese.

Jeremy

Harrow Sewage Lagoons are located north of the town of Harrow. Harrow is on Hwy
20 west of Leamington and Kingsville. Driving west take a right on 11 at the
lights in Harrow, then a left onto Concession Rd 3. In about a kilometre or so
Harrow Sewage Lagoons are on your left.
