[Ontbirds] Ruff, Bruce County
Today Doug Pedwell, Stu Nutt, Nancy White and Mike Pickup along with many members of the Bruce Birding Club viewed the Ruff between 1:30 and 2:00 pm in the same location as reported by Jarmo Jalava yesterday. Many good lucks as it was displaying amongst a group of Greater Yellowlegs. Thanks Jarmo for the great find Mike Pickup mpic...@bmts.com Sent from my iPad ___ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization. [Ontbirds] Fwd: Ruff - Bruce-Grey Line (Grey County)
Ruff continues as of 11:06am... beautiful bird. Well worth the trip... Original message From: Jeremy Bensette via ONTBIRDS Date: 2017-04-21 9:16 AM (GMT-05:00) To: Bird Alert Ontbirds Subject: [Ontbirds] Ruff - Bruce-Grey Line (Grey County) The male Ruff is present this morning in the same fields described yesterday. It's been shifting between the three fields closest east to the bridge directly south of the intersection of Grey-Bruce Line and Sideroad 1 near Chatsworth in Grey County. It has been pretty distant in a field all morning and very tough to spot without a telescope. Good birding! Jeremy Jeremy Bensette - Leamington, ON I'm doing an Ontario Big Year in 2017! [Ontbirds] Little Blue Heron(s) - Sparta
At least one and possibly both of the Little Blue Herons were present a short time ago in Corner Corner's pond at 45045 Fruit Ridge Line near Sparta. About 35-40 minutes ago, I inadvertently flushed one of the birds while walking along the trail on the east of the pond. The bird glided across the pond to the west side and turned north towards the bridge before I lost it. It did not appear to me to be heading out of the pond as it was flying fairly low. Mary Carnahan (the original finder of the birds) happened to be on the opposite (west) side of the pond at the same time and also saw it. Mary advised to me that it then circled and headed toward the south end of the pond. Mary also indicated to me that she may have also had the second bird; although I only saw one, she had a much better vantage point of the pond from where she stood. It didn't appear as though the bird I saw was panicked so my feeling is that both birds may likely still be present. Boreal Chickadee: One was reported along the Logging Museum trail on April 18. WINTER FINCHES Purple Finch: A few were at the Visitor Centre feeder area this week. Pine Siskin: There were up to 15 at the Visitor Centre on April 20. American Goldfinch: One or two are still being seen at the Visitor Centre.
