Observers:Andrew Keaveney, Chris Burris, Don Campbell, Eric Single,
John Froom, Keith Sealy, Richard Skevington,
Ronnie Goodhand, Steve Birch, Stewart Lofton

Visitors:
Thanks to everyone who was out today to help with the count and had faith
that the fog would clear. Matt, Eric, Chris, John F., Don C., Keith,
Ronnie, Steve, Richard S., Andrew Keaveney. and Stewart Lofton (Hamilton).

Weather:
The day started with fairly heavy fog with the hawk watch site completely
socked in and visibility no more than 250m just enough to see to the
bush lot across the field...to Sharpie Alley to the north and to the cliff
edge to the south. The fog didn't lift until nearly midday. Winds were NW
or WNW for the day but light. Humidity was of course 100% for the first
several hours... not the best for migration of raptors. It did eventually
clear out completely to pure blue skies.

Raptor Observations:
With the heavy fog the first bird wasn't tallied until almost 11:00 a.m.
...but once the fog lifted the birds did push through for the next 4 hours.
The total number of birds was better than expected with 718 the
majority of which were Broadwings (417), Sharpies (142) and Am. Kestrels
(136). Others included Osprey (6), a single Bald Eagle, N. Harriers (4),
Cooper's Hawks (2), Redtails (5), Merlins (2) and a nice surprise...
Peregrines (3).

Non-raptor Observations:
Some non-raptors were reported today with Indigo Buntings, Song Sparrows,
YB Sapscuker, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, RT Hummingbird, Common
Yellowthroat, Magnolia, Cape May and Black and White warblers, House Wren,
Cedar Waxwings, Gray Catbirds, Red-eyed Vireo and a Veery.

For Monarchs a decent number passing by especially along the cliff with a
total for the day of 330.

Predictions:
Tomorrow promises to start a bit better than today weather wise and winds
are forecast to be light from the NE for the morning then getting to
straight E for the rest of the day so there should be birds on the move.
