[Ontbirds] Black-tailed Gull on the Bruce Peninsula

2019-05-22 Thread Mike Burrell via ONTBIRDS
Hello birders,

I just received this information from Beth Martin. I dont know anything
more than this!

This evening, May 22, around 7:30 pm, Virgil Martin saw and photographed an
adult Black-tailed Gull. Location, on Dyers Bay Rd at Crane Lake Rd. It was
moving with a flock of ring billed and a few herring gulls.

Hopefully the bird can be relocated.

[Ontbirds] Brown Pelican

2019-05-22 Thread Stuart Williams via ONTBIRDS
The bird rose up from pier five in the marina and flew up the channel , over
the lighthouse And then made a turn to the west about two hundred yards out
from shore. The bird continued west out of sight. Try Port Darlington and the
pier as the foot of Liberty street in Bowmanville or——— other poets west.

[Ontbirds] Brown Pelican at Bond Head Wednesday May 22 12:00 p.m. (Harbour/Marina on Lake Ontario South of Newcastle

2019-05-22 Thread Dennis Barry via ONTBIRDS
Mid-morning today Ian Whittaker, who lives nearby, called Margaret Carney to
report a "dark pelican" flying around the harbour at Bond Head. After I
talked to Ian, I called Phill Holder who lived in Newcastle. He was able to
photograph the bird, and identified it as a brown pelican, possibly a
sub-adult.

The bird continues in the harbour and in the marina to the
west, sometimes disappearing among the boats in the marina.

Exit #401 at Mill street in Newcastle and follow the road south to the
harbour. When the road divides just south of #401, keep left and follow
along the east side of the creek until you reach Lake Ontario.

[Ontbirds] Brown Pelican, Newcastle Harbour

2019-05-22 Thread Michael Ferguson via ONTBIRDS
Andrea Kingsley just called me asking me to send an alert out that Phil
Holder is currently watching a Brown Pelican at the marina in Newcastle
Harbour, also known as Bond Head, in Durham.

To get to the harbour exit 401 (east of Bowmanville) on Mill St and proceed
south to the parking lot right at the lake at the foot of Mill St.

[Ontbirds] Western Tanager - Echo Bay, Ontario

2019-05-22 Thread Carter Dorscht via ONTBIRDS
Hi all,

I had a female Western Tanager in my yard this morning. It was feeding on the
oranges I have out for the orioles. It continues as of 10:30am.

I'm located on Echo Lake Road in Echo Bay, which is approximately 15 minutes
east of Sault Ste. Marie. Echo Lake Road is the first left off Highway 638,
which is accessed from Highway 17 right at Echo Bay.

If anyone local wants to look for this bird, send me an email.
