[Ontbirds] Brown Booby at Fort Erie

2013-10-09 Thread Pratt, Paul
‎Steve Charboneau spotted the booby about 8:20 this morning. It was flying low
over the water near a large concentration of cormorants and gulls just above
the bridge. The bird continued flying up river until it was out of sight from
the fort parking lot.

[Ontbirds] Dickcissels at Wheatley

2013-07-01 Thread Pratt, Paul
There are several pairs of Dickcissels in a large meadow just east of Wheatley.
We had about 8 males singing in the northern portion of the field this morning.

The +50 acre field is 3.1 km east of Wheatley on the south side of Highway 3.
Watch for an oil well and storage tank in a field dominated by clovers. The
land owner does not mind birders visiting the property.

[Ontbirds] Prothonotary Warblers, Holiday Beach C. A.

There was a male Prothonotary Warbler persistently singing today in the
southwestern corner of Holiday Beach C. A. It was most often present along a
small seasonal birding path on the north side of the portable classroom. It
also sang from the strip of woods closer to the beach. Another Prothonotary was
reported from the north end of the trailer park in the morning. The park had
excellent numbers of warblers, vireos, flycatchers, tanagers, etc today.

Holiday Beach C. A. is located on the Lake Erie shoreline off County Road 50
(about an hour drive west of Point Pelee).
