[ONTBIRDS] Gray Partridge near Scotland, Brant County

2021-02-25 Thread Sarah Lamond via ONTBIRDS
Hi,

This morning Sharon and Denys Gardiner found 6 Gray Partridge along Elliott
Road just west of King Street N in Scotland. They were in a field on the south
side of the road (roughly here: 43.0432190, -80.3369120).

Mike Hallett just talked to a local from the area who told him they are wild
birds and have been here for years. This is roughly 12km south from the
Brantford Airport, which was the stronghold location of this species for Brant
County up until 2013.

[Ontbirds] Upland Sandpiper, Pine Warblers Algonquin Park

2019-10-03 Thread Sarah Lamond via ONTBIRDS
Hello,

This morning Peter Mills and I birded the airfield in Algonquin Provincial
Park. While there, we flushed an Upland Sandpiper. It called a couple of times
as it flew off but we were unfortunately unable to relocate it for photos. This
is the first fall record for Algonquin Park (Tozer, Birds of Algonquin Park)
and the second latest fall record for Ontario according to ebird (5th of
October, tip of Long Point being the latest). Also of note was a flock of 12
Pine Warblers associating with Yellow-rumped Warblers and Eastern Bluebirds.

The Airfield is located at Mew Lake Campground, which is at KM 30.6 along
highway 60 in Algonquin Provincial Park.

Today at about 1 pm I stopped in at Mohawk Lake and found a Slaty-backed
Gull. The gulls flush very easily, so walk up very slowly after you park.
The gulls all flushed due to an eagle or vulture when I was there, but they
did start to come back.

Another interesting gull that noticed earlier looked like a hybrid of LBBG
x HEGU

Cheers,
Rich

Best viewed from Greenwich St.
Take Garden Ave exit off the 403, head south to Colborne, take that west to
Locks Rd.
Locks Rd turns into Mohawk St.
Turn north onto Greenwich Ave and the lake is on the north side (your right)
There are a few spots to park and look from along the road.
