Re: [Ontbirds] Cattle Egret, Northwest of Wallsingham
Good day. If anyone is interested, the Cattle Egret continues here on Hazen Road between the 8th and 7th concession here in Norfolk County. Good views now as the Cattle and bird are by the road. To get here take number 3 highway to Cortland, Ontario. Turn South on highway 59. Travel through the town of Langton and make a right at County Road 45. Hazen Road will be your first crossroad I believe. Turn left. It's the only cow pasture along the road. The 7th concession is signed Walsingham T/L Road. Time is 12:08 PM. Good Birding. [Ontbirds] Lawrence's Warbler @ Backus Woods South-Norfolk County
Hey there birders. This morning I was following up on an ebird alert for a GWWA submitted by my friend Tony Zammit. I had messaged him in regards to, and he told me about a GWWA/BWWA hybrid he saw while there. Although rare by ebird standards an alert for Lawrence's Warbler isn't issued. After Tony's description and further confirmation from my friend Len Manning through photography, and learning that folks may want to see it, I decided to ONTBIRD it. Beautiful bird. Yellow body, typical BWWA wings with bold, white wing bars, black throat and black mask about the eyes. Song is BWWA but varies considerably at the trailing end. Almost garbled for lack of a better term. I heard it immediately and recognized the difference before seeing the bird. To find this bird travel South on highway 59 like you were going to Long Point. Turn left at the 3rd concession and drive to the parking lot for Backus Woods South. Park and walk North to the wild turkey release monument and the small picnic shelter. Listen for the BWWA song. Walk West via the trail through the field. Good Birding and thanks to Tony again. I'll be there later.
