Posting for Konchog Norbu. Please note you need to arrange access before
looking for this bird.
This morning I found a male Black-backed Woodpecker working a grove by
the guest house at the Ogyan Dzong Buddhist Centre north of Madoc, at
the base of Mount Moriah. I'm an American birder living here so not sure
exactly how unusual this is outside of boreal/recent burn habitats, but
it strikes me as a pretty good find and I was able to get diagnostic photos.
From Madoc take rt. 62 to rt. 7 and head east on 7. Take the next left
on Cooper Road. Follow this several kilometers through the hamlet of
Cooper then go right on Lingham Lake Rd. About 5k down this rd. is the
