[Ontbirds] Brighton Constructed Wetlands

2013-05-21 Thread Keith Lee
Hi everyone from BCW, I know that this may be a little off subject of the bird,
I am asking those who happen to come across our slower road crossing turtles to
take a little caution, today someone tried to straddle a good size snapper only
to
hit the fairly big turtle on the under carriage of the car. The turtle is know
at the Kawartha Turtle Trauma center, who new.

Our Osprey has not moved of the nest the last two time I had to take my samples
and dad took a couple of fly by's and then went back to his favorite tree and
keeps a close eye on us, this is a first for me to not have the osprey leave
the nest.

As for our other birds, they are in abundance, and young birds abound.

Thanks for your time, and my time is always available to you.

2013-05-02 Thread Keith Lee
Hi everyone one from the Municipality of Brighton

The 2013 season is upon us and I hope to see some of you this year at the BCW
(Brighton Constructed Wetlands), I have dropped the water in the south cell to
help with growth but also to help attract some shore birds.

May I also request that when you enter the Wetlands that you have your Pass
with you. Since those who get the pass have sign the waiver and check our
rules for entry. Any Municipal employee can request to see your permit.

The Osprey have returned and are on eggs. George and Gracey get very upset when
you stand under their nest for any length of time, so please respect their nest
site by staying back a reasonable distance.

This nest is now registered as #476 on the Osprey Watch.

Thanks everyone

I have to admit that I don't carry my bird book with me so I had to double
check what
I had seen as well as confirmation from others. A solitary Wimbrel in the north
cell.

If you have been there (BCW) you will have noticed that the north cell is drawn
down to help
kick start some new growth, there are plenty of shore birds very visible from
the viewing station
but entry with a permit is still available.

If any birding tours are coming to the Wetlands please let me know.

Hello Fellow birders

Here in Brighton we are have a few issues with a few locals in regards to the
Permit System at the Wetlands and we require your help in letting them know how
important it is to keep it open, if you have visited the wetlands then you know
what a wonderful place it is.

Therefore I am asking for letters/e-mails from visitors to present to the new
council in support of keeping the Permit System going.

You can send them to my e-mail address keith.lee(at)sympatico.ca

Thank You for your support

[Ontbirds] Brighton Constructed Wetlands and Tours

2010-08-17 Thread Keith Lee
It has come to my attention that some Birding tour groups would like to
enter the Constructed Wetlands

Anyone wanting to bring a group to the Constructed Wetland must contact
me privately for permission.
I will need the time and date you will be entering and you must either be
a registered birding/naturalist
organization or be a Tour leader of your own birding/naturalist company.
I will need a list of persons entering
At no time is permission to the north sewage lagoons allowed without my
approval. Viewing of the North sewage Lagoon
can be viewed from the outside the Main gate.

I will be in attendance for these tours, I also hope that this will help
in clarifying any concerns that may have arisen from
  Legitimate Tour Operators.

2010-06-10 Thread Keith Lee
Hi everyone from the wetlands in Brighton, it seems that our Osprey this
year have had some bad luck, they have left the nest with out results, not
knowing
why we can only speculate, theres always next year, we have had a pair of
Coots which
is a first for me, a Ruddy duck with spectacular coloring, over 9 pair of
Moore Hens
, lots of Virginia Rails, Least Bitterns, Black Crown Night Heron, White
Egret who visits
from time to time, the water level is down in the south cell.

I have been expanding the parking lot to allow for more parking, I hope this
meets your needs
gravel will be put on top when I get back from my vacation.

Maureen and I are planning on having an open house with free entrance while
we are there
the date will be announced when we get things together, we do miss not
seeing everyone.
