[Ontbirds] Fish Crow - Point Pelee Visitor Centre

2017-04-30 Thread Jeremy Bensette via ONTBIRDS
Tim Arthur and I just found a Fish Crow eating a Jolly Rancher (it smelled like
watermelon flavour) in the parking lot of the visitor centre. It was silent at
first and we noted its tiny size as it stood next to Red-winged Blackbirds,
bluish sheen on its back, and regularly ruffled its throat feathers in a
Raven-like manner. It eventually flew for a few seconds and called a few times
like a Fish Crow.

Point Pelee Visitor Centre parking lot is located 3km from the end of Point
Pelee Dr., the road that leads to and goes into Point Pelee (southeast of
Leamington in Essex County).

Good birding!

Jeremy

[Ontbirds] Fish Crow Point Pelee

2015-05-10 Thread Jeremy Bensette
I just heard then recorded and photographed a Fish Crow flying over the park
heading south, approximately over the road beside Woodland Trail. If it
continues in the same direction it will probably be at the tip any minute.

[Ontbirds] Fish Crow - Point Pelee National Park

2011-05-25 Thread Sarah . Rupert
Hi All

I arrived at the Visitor Centre this morning, to be greeted by the call of
a Fish Crow. The bird was first found by Mike Nelson. It was calling
from one of the tall trees in the transit loop and was also seen sitting
on the satellite tower at the rear of the Visitor Centre.

There haven't been as many birders in the park this week, but the
highlights from the last few days are

Whimbrel (1) and Nelson's Gull at the Tip yesterday morning - Josh
Vandermuelen and I found them. We also had an Acadian Flycatcher leaving
the Tip in the morning.

Mississippi Kite (1) was reported from the Tip yesterday afternoon - no
details have been provided.

Mourning Warbler was noted this morning and Blackpolls are widespread
throughout the park. Many resident warblers have taken up territory, but
there are still lingering migrants. The foliage is close to full leaf out
- so seeing birds is getting much tougher, I did hear Black-throated blue,
Northern Parula and Blackburnian yesterday in my travels.

It's the time of year to keep your ears open!

Good Birding everyone!
Sarah

[Ontbirds]FISH CROW, Point Pelee National Park...

2008-05-08 Thread Steve Pike
At 8:30am, myself and Julie Liptak saw and heard 2 Fish Crow's flying south
directly above the main vehicle road directly opposite Sparrow Field. The
birds called 5 or 6 times consecutively and returned 5 minutes later heading
NNE, calling all the while.

Keith Sealy (sp?) not more than 5mins before was describing 2 birds he heard
and saw at post 16 on the Woodland Nature Trail the previous day (May 7th)
advising me they were around and to watch for them...haha! In my
astonishment, sure enough here they were!

The birds were finally relocated again by the Borrelle (sp??...same guys
that found the Burrowing Owl on Pelee Is.) brothers and their father at the
cemetery at 11:58am.

Thanks Keith, I believed you before ever seeing them!!

Steve and Julie.

Sorry no directions to PPNP, totally fried and need to be up again at
5:30am...lol.
